Knows very little
i must admit i am no tech head when it comes to guitar components and guts, so i must seek your advice.

i just purchased a Epiphone Dot Studio, it was broken, but i am getting a new one. anyways, i was thinking of dropping in some new pick-ups while im at it. i did a search on the guitar and saw that someone had mentions "57's" for pickups, what are those?? i called a local shop and they recomended "pearly Gates", though i do not know who the manufacturer is, or if it is a model name.

i will use the guitar for mostly clean sounds, I would really like something kinda jazzy sounding, but i will also use some distorion from time to time, but mainly the cleans is what i am concerned about.

any recomendations? any help would be very appreciated, i would rather hear a bunch of opinions on here, versus one guy from a store.

thanks in advance.

EDIT HAHAHA: i meant mod, not mad...oops

ok bye

It really depends on what kind of sound you are looking for and how much you want to spend are you wanting to uae active or passive pups?
when you do the mod you will want to get some good pots as well
what kind of budget you have will determine what we can recomend.

here are some of my favorite pups for a 6 string
EMG
Wilkinson
Allan Holdsworth Humbuckers
Select
TV Jones Classic
Benedetto
not in any particular order

well, i talked to a guy at a local shop, a reputable and respecatable one, he told me he would install new pickups, new strings, and intonize for about $80.

I would be willing to spend $100 per pick up, so 300 all in all with installation.

and i am looking for a nice clean tone, not too dark or muddy at all, something crisp, maybe slightly twangy a bit.

but i will also use it for some distorted sounds, so thats also a factor.

basically, i was going to buy a tele, the mexican version, but decided on this instead, thinking i would get the tele in a few months, but now i think if i invested some more dough into this thing that it will sound much better.

why should i change the pots too??
