i missed the part about him wanting a mesa. yea, he could have caught a deal. if he's persistent there will be plenty more deals to catch if he's not hung up about used gear. some people are and that boggles my mind. it's very common to pick up a piece of used gear at 40% off the best retail prices of new gear. many people will put the money into a new piece of gear (because it's new) that they don't really want and the value drops like a rock when you carry it out of the store. yea, that is boggling.

Well, once I bought a Roland Juno 106 on ebay and it was fuckin' busted and I couldn't get my money back. That has been my most significant issue with buying used gear. It kind of boggled my mind too... :D

If I can check it out locally and it doesn't seem sketchy I'll pick something up used.

I love my AVT, it's a combo. OD channel is good, very marshall....the clean has a nice bit of break-up to for a hybrid, kinda clean punk stuff.

Where is Jonny C???? :p

AVT's suck the taint grease off my nutsack. I wouldn't record with one if Rosie O'Donnell was threatening rape. Donkey I repacked your pre to the gills with stuffing and bubblewrap. Wanted to make sure it got there ok, should be there shortly.

My god... I've seen a more empassioned post on this site.

Yes, although not since the early 1990s.

So you could shed some 1st hand experience with us.

Listening to the sound samples on that link above, does it sound alot different then it did in the early 90's?

Just curious, this head has caught my attention recentely.

thanks

Looking at it, it seems to be a completely different head than the one we used. It does sound different as well - the one we had definitely didn't do the heavy thing.

Anybody looking for a sub 1000 dollar head for recording might want to check out the Orange Tiny Terror.

I can't wait til I get money and these are shipped out again. I'm going to buy one just to have around. I wouldn't even be able to use it for a few months until I could afford a cab, but the thing just rocks and I want to have one for when I start recording a lot again.

FWIW, I have the 2X12 combo version of that Carvin (the MTS3212, purchased it new in '96 or '97), and those sound clips are pretty representative of the sound of my amp.

Alright for some clarification:

I am looking for an amp up head..saving my cash right now, thats why i didnt go for the mesa thing..sadly. Thats why im looking at new stuff for now, and if there are used deals around when i have enough cash for a new kind of head, then i'll deffinetly hit it up, but i dont have that option right now. Like back a while ago i got a used park g412a cab for about 200..it sounds pretty nice..especially for a 200 dollar cab.

And yeah, well dude how does the orange tiny terror sound? I never heard any sound clips. I was always fascinated by it, but it is one of those amps that you would need to put a lot of petals in front of to get the sound you want(distortion pedals..not like delay/modulation), or does it have a good clean/crunch sound already.

Well, nobody's going to buy it for it's clean sound.

Lots of samples out there. Try GearSluts.

It sounds really nice. If you throw a TS9 in the chain, then it sounds even nicer. I DON'T believe this amp would be for you though. It doesn't have enough overdrive...it's more of a classic rock amp/rock amp.

Also, please don't do what my brother does/is doing. He can't figure out what tone he wants...then he figures it out (for that month) and he buys an amp that SOUNDS like the amp he really wants (because it's cheaper). Then, a month later, he is unhappy and loses money because he trades in the other amp and gets ANOTHER amp that SOUNDS like the amp he wants. He wants a Marshall head, but has head a Laney, Crate, and (currently) Carvin V3. I'm finally making him come to his senses and forcing him to save his money and to just buy the damn Marshall.

Summary of my story: Go to guitar stores. Find the amp that you think sounds the best and that you can afford (maybe not at the time). Save your money and buy that amp. If there is an amp there that is AMAZING...then give the guitar store $100 or so and have them hold it in the back for you. Then save your money and go back for it.

Hope this helps.

Yeah i listened to some clips..its very ACDC sounding..the clean is nice though. But yeah i get what you mean..i did play the AVT and it is a sound that i really was hoping to achieve..i like mesa's sound, but not as much as marshalls. And i like Orange's sound too, since most of my favorite bands use their stuff..but thats wayy too expensive for right now, and i love marshalls enough that id save for one of them...id a nice DSL or TSL is available on ebay for cheap when i have most of my money saved..or even a mesa single/dual rec...then i'll go for them..but if not, its gonna take way to long to save im the like 1300-1500 dolars for a new head like that. And ive heard/seen a few good sounding bands(at least guitarwise) use carvins. But what u say is very true...and i probably shouldnt think about what i can have now, versus what i can have later aka, the bigger and better things.

Well its not that, i've tried my friend's peavey, and a few at guitar center..they just sound to hardcore of a tone. They are nice, but im not looking for that kind of sound. So regardless, i think i've narrowed it down to that Carvin head or the AVT...whichever sounds the most pop-punk/jimmy eat world-esq/alternative...i'm going with it. Thank you, btw, for everyone having their input.

try the windsor. its one of the better sounding amps out there. and cheap too!
