Input Monitoring even if not recording!

Input Monitoring is only usefull if the track is armed. But that means that if I hit Record, the track is recorded (obviously). Now what I want is the ability to use Input Monitoring on one track so I can for example read the levels while recording another track.

It's great if you have external effects, such as reverb or echo, etc...

And just a quick question:

Option of wet software compression and limiting pre track writing.
Isn't this input Monitoring?

Not the same thing.

Right now if you use software limiting or compression plugins while monitoring, they do nothing to the incoming data. The track is still written dry and you are hearing the dry track processed after the fact (after being written to a wave file) through the plug ins. The data has all the transients in it. This is why people use external hardware prior to recording, so that the data is actually controlled somewhat i.e. limited or compressed prior to writing.

I want software plugins that take the incoming digital bits, actually processes them prior to writing the data to the wave file. I also want the option to turn it off and use transient data if I want.

For what cakewalks charging they need to include a USable version of LIVESYNTH. Im not spending another $50 for a plugin> yeah I need it but its a matter of principle Now.
The 1meg version doesnt work half the time and most decent soundfonts are > 1meg. There is very little help or support for the plugin and the Sonar user manual which came with the program doesnt cover it. Sonar power does inclide a page on it, But I think the setup the way they show it does NOT WORK. I have posted some questions elsewhere on this . still working on it.

Heck If I could get it to reliably work Id give them $20 I guess.

I'd like to see a smart looping tool where I could make an audio loop, without having to try 100 start and stop points 1 at a time.

VST wrapper Yes agreed!

A MP3 output should be included as well. Once again without charging extra for it!!

Thats what I think

I hate getting nickel and dimed to death.

If you owned PA9, then you have the rights to use the MP3 encoder that is bundled with Sonar.

However, there are better encoders available on the net for free (e.g., the lame encoder). The only limitation is that they would not be native to Sonar. But I recall that someone wrote a program that would allow you to use an external MP3 encoder from within Sonar. If you're interested, let us know, I'm sure someone can locate a copy.

And it uses the Lame encoder as well. What more could you ask for. :)

Just ask, and moskus delivers!

I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard great things about it. :)

Call me nuts, but here's what I want:

Groupable tracks that can be minimized/maximized and otherwise manipulated as a unit.

For example: I would like to be able to put 7 tracks worth of backing vocals into one group that can be labeled "Backing Vox" and then minimized to take up one track space. That way they're out of the way and neatly grouped together. Then when I want to work on them I click a "expand group" button and they jump out as individual tracks. When I'm done I close the group again, and they're back to one track or screen real-estate.

You could put OH, Kick, and snare, perc all in one "Drum" group, or all the rythim guitars in one group, or whatever.

It would be a lot quicker than the track manager and also keep everything organized better.

If you've ever used PHotoshop 6.o, this is basically the same concept as the "layer set" function.

I read somewhere that the reason MP3 encoders are included in packages are that the company who invente the encryption/encoder wan't to be paid for every instance of the encoder. Companies don't have it as a default because all users don't use it????? Only users who want to use it can pay for it.

I like the idea of having 1 fader for a group of instruments... that sounds cool.

LiveSynth... well if Sonar came with the full package I might think about installing it... because it was only a lite version I didn't bother!!!

I want to be able to set up multiple punch-in points. I want to be able to fix more than one mistake on a track in one pass. So, I could punch in at 2:10, punch out at 2:16, then in the same pass, punch in again at 2:54, and out at 3:05. Does anyone else think this would be useful?

You can already group faders. I'm not talking about making a track "set" that is can be hid/ enlarged to save screen space.

I understood what you meant... I just didn't type my reply up right ;)

It would make mixing groups of instruments very easy. A similar feature exists in ProTools.

When you use session drummer in a project it should be loaded with the settings for that song.I don't understand why all the other plug ins save their settings but not session drummer.
