new band name?

just a little survey.


We're just finishing up our record and we're starting to think about changing the band name. The band is kinda completely different than it was when we first started with the name..

Here are the choices:

keep it the same as poorly drawn birds

change it to

Bear Attack or
Man vs Shark

Some of the guys are concerned with bear attack because of the comparision we get to minus the bear sometimes.. I think it's great but i'm not sure what the other guys think of that.. I figured I'd ask to see what people think
 
I much pefer poorly drawn birds, fwiw. Although it does remind me of Badly Drawn Boy.

Interestingly, there's a band around these parts called Bear vs. Shark. :rolleyes:

Ya just can't win!

Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your debut album.

Many great band names come from words that do not exist. Many times 2 different words together. Or part of another language. Your name sticks with you for a while, it defy's the band's identity, personality & more. Pick one carefully.

hrmm not the technique for us..


especially the 3rd thing.. i'm a graphic artist .. album art is the least of our worries

shitty about bear vs. shark although I went to check them out and they're pretty rad.
 
I like Poorly Drawn Birds wayyyyyyy better than the other ones you mentioned. I would not give you guys a chance in a record store with the other two names, it just wouldnt do anything for me. Then again, thats a matter of peronal taste.
Meaning, you guys do what YOU guys wanna do, dont let us sway you.

I find I have to explain what poorly drawn birds means to just about everyone who looks at me strange when I say it.. then there's the dreaded "hey did you guys know there's a band called badly drawn boy" i hate hearing that.
 
I wasn't being funny. I was giving you legitimate advice. I think your name should be New Band Name. Nobody has done it. You are a new band, it denotes your name and is very minimalist.

Another name could be, Your Name Here. You've seen that a thousand times, but nobody has ever used it for a band name.

You might think I'm full of shit, which I am, but I also have an advertising degree from the University of Florida in 1976.

Here's another one that I coined that you are welcome to. Immaculate Consumption. I named a health food restaurant that, but it could be a band, too. I think Xeries is a cool name. It is the name of a star. That is my name. Go ahead and steal it. Whatever. I think that band names are so stupid that I thought New Band Name was brilliant. You probably won't get it, so leave it alone. Someday there will be a very famous band called, New Band Name.
 
hehe could definately be cool.. I'm not 100% sure that's right for us though.. I want to find something really rad that people will remember..

frankly I can't believe that there's no band called bear attack already but again I don't want people to think we're trying to be like minus the bear...

I'll keep thinking.. I"ll let you all know what we decide. until then it's poorly drawn birds for now
 
band names are always kind of cheesy. the best ones usually are personal to the band members, being inside jokes or something esoteric like.

that aside, the band names listed aren't terribly interesting to me. animal names are all over the place now, with bear probably being the most common. deer or wolf might be next, followed by bird. that's not based on hard facts, just the way it seems to me.

yeah I know.. we came up with this band a long time ago.. at the time we had never heard of bdb. The name is just way too close for my tastes..
 
I probably wouldn't see a band called poorly drawn birds unless I already knew they were good to be honest.

Bear attack or Man vs. Shark I'd be all over! (of course my last band was called "To Slay Zombie Newton", so there's no accounting for my taste)

According to Andyhix, I should have a band named "Charles Delaney" with an album called "I don't need them"

That's a funn technique!

"Lord Byng Secondary School"

Maybe I'll change it up just a little - "Lord Bong" sounds just a little more rock-star-ish.. Good inspiration there,
 
Bears vs. Shark and Beat Attack sound like names of hardcore/screamo/emo bands, in my .02cent opinion.
Poorly Drawn Birds sounds more like an indie-pop type band.

Design / Redesign
Super Evil Music (might be too metal for us)
Play.Pause.Stop.

RGB (red green blue)

i don't know if i'm down with any of these (except for maybe bear attack and rabbit transit)

You remember REM (Rapid Eye Movement)

I always wondered why no one ever named themselves EMR (Electromagnetic Radiation) It means light on the shorter wavelengths and sound on the longer ones. On Bonxo, I described Xeries as electromagnetic radiation from Earth.

But just plain old EMR would be a cool name, IMO.

If you're going with shark anything, I'd vote for Shark Leavings - you could have fun with those graphics if you like the color red. There's another one - The Color Red or better yet, The Color Read

I hate band names. They're stupid.
