New 12-string, Ibanez AEF1812ENT - help needed!

Got this used, just over a year old from a non-player. Great deal - $100 (sells for around $400 new), I like the overall acoustic sound, but the electronics are not working - that's why I got it for $100. Changed the batteries, still nothing (no lights on the preamp/control panel); yanked the battery panel, wires all are attached, the batteries appear to be making contact with the springs.
When I plugged it in, and hit the phase button, I hear a slight change in background hum, but that's it. I tried both the XLR and 1/4" outputs, but no signal.
Any ideas, before I bring this to a repair place?
 
No idea what's wrong but I'd take a VOM and make sure the voltage is at least making the trip from the battery compartment to PC board. If it is then you'll have to take it somewhere for repair. If not it should be easy to see where the voltage stops.
 
Frankly, I think bring it to the shop to repair the electronics is throwing good money after bad. Most shops charge around $50 or more as a bench fee- repairs can go up from there, depending on labor and/or parts needed. I'd give some thought to just playing it without the electronics.

Whaddawant for $100? Rubber biscuit?? :)
 
take it to the shop. If you were good enough at electronics to fix it, it would be fixed by now.
If you do know a little then track rats idea is a good one. Seems like the power isn't getting to the circuit since you don't even get a light.
Also ..... you said the battery appears to be making contact. Appearances can be deceiving ..... you need to be positive it's making contact.

I wouldn't hesitate to take it to a shop. Even if it costs $100 you're still ahead of buying one new. And I don't think it's throwing money after bad ..... that implies that buying it was a bad idea. It wasn't if the git plays well.
 
Yes, it has good action and good sound. Daddy's JunkyMusic (where it was bought new) charges $35 for basic electronic checkup, so guess that'll be my first choice. The luthiers around here who do electronic repiars will charge at least double that to look at it.
 
One of the music stores by my place is very reasonable with repair prices. There is no bench fee - They were going to change out a bad pickup selector switch for $20 plus the cost of the switch ($12) - i squirted DW40 in there - fixed it right up :)
 
Oh, I think buying it for a c-note was a good idea- just paying that much or more to fix the electronics on it seems kinda unnecessary.
 
They sell for $400 new and $300 used, so any less than $100 for repair sounds like a good deal to me!
 
Thanks, hoping the whole preamp doesn't need replacing - it's only a year+ old!
