New or used? At new prices, might I suggest a Soundelux U195, nice and versatile and to me, sounds better than the 103 on most sources. Actually, sounds fantastic on quite a few things, its a very nice mic.
The TLM-103 is a nice mic too, though, but check out the Soundelux. If you yo uare going used, probably go for the Neumann, as the U195 is pretty rare and stays close to new price most of the time.
It's a quality mic....but not one of my favorites for vox. Certainly not my first choice anyway. I've had some good result with it on a guitar cab though.
I have a TLM103. This mic has the lowest self-noise out there. The mic works great on acoustic guitars, piano and elec cabs. It is rather "breathy" on some vocals but it gets a full big sound. I find that stuff recorded with this mic stands up in the mix and things don't disappear. It is a great combo with the FR VM pro. The mic is ded quiet and so is the VM pro. I would like to try the TLM103 on the DMP3 to see what the difference would be. I think because of the airy highs this mic has, the DMP3 might really bring out the best qualities. It might bring out the worst qualities. I don'yt yet know. A definate item to add to any mic collection.
BTW, I borrowed some newer U87s for recording and put the TLM103 against them. The 103 has a far better sound. I was dissapointed in the U87. No life in the sound.
I haven't found a single application [other than testing mic pre's to determine how they handle a 'harsh sound microphone'] where I haven't preferred the Gefell M930 to the TLM-103... but YMMV.
