I have been using Alesis Monitor twos(passive) for a long time now and have had descent results. I drive them with an alesis monitor amp and use my mix board to control volume. While rearranging my studio I set them on my desk which happen to be closer to my head and my mixes sounded way different. In other words I spotted mistakes. However, they are extremely too big to have sitting on the desk. I was wanting to buy a smaller set of monitors for the desk ...maybe KRK and be able to switch back and forth for referencing...my musicians usually sit behind my mix space on a couch and listen so the alesis M2 would be great for that.....is there a switching system that I can incorperate to A/B between passive/active? It seems all KRK are active.

Every signal is passive until it hits an amplifier... If you hook us a switcher (it's hard to beat the Presonus Central Station for features & price), you're connecting those outputs to amplifiers - Whether those amplifiers are built-in to the monitor cabinets or not.

I went on a speaker selector switch search about 5 years ago. All the selectors I'd seen were crap - even the Scottish ones!

I ended up buying a Proco unit, which was way, way better than any others I'd found, and it was pretty expensive.

From the Proco I ended up making the one I use now, which, once again, is an ugly prototype but man does that thing work great. I mean really great.

It ends up being a A/B switcher, where you can compare any speakers against your mains. The Proco allowed you to compare 2 sets to your mains, mine has 4 pairs that you can instantly switch to compare to my NS10M's.

I have been meaning to make an article on it. It's ugly but works better than anything else I know of. Total cost under $20. Uglier than shit:

The bad part of all the store-bought ones is the way the speaker wires attach. Most are hideous and are close to shorting all the time. I used only hardware store nuts, bolts and nylon washers for that and I love the way it came out. I can't imagine this thing ever breaking.

I was surprised that the stupid Ace Hardware switches don't pop at all through the mains. It's one of my main tools.
I'd like to post an article on it but pulling it out would be a bitch.
