Here is my situation....my room is about 10 feet by 7 feet. I will only be mixing vocals so I need a decent set of flat sounding monitors that will reflect accurate reverb and such. The two monitors appealing to me are the KRK Rokit's 5's or 6's or the bluesky 2.1 desktop. Out of those two which would give a true natural responce for vocals. The room is not very big and has not been treated so I don't figure I need anything bigger than 6 inch woofer? Maybe? I would really appreciate some advice by you nice folks:)

krk 5 or 6`s are entry level equip so dont expect too much from them.

i dont know enuff about the sizes to give u anymore advice but my thinking would be if your spending money on all the gear then youd be mad not to invest some in soundtreatment or a makeshift vocal booth

The usual order for setting up would be...
Treat the room...
Then Monitors...

The reason treatment comes first is because no matter how good your monitors are, they won't be able to give you anything like a True representation of what you're hearing due to bass buildup, standing waves, nulls and voids.

Granted, you're only mixing vocals but I'm assuming there will be a music bed you'll be mixing them to. Right?

There are some cheap alternatives to building bass traps (which would be the first thing I'd do in a room that small) and you can find alot of that info around here. Search for 703 rigid fiberglass if you're even somewhat handy at building stuff.

Good luck man.......

I don't know, throwing up some bass traps and absorbers without really knowing how to treat a room could be just as bad as nothing at all.

the thing about near field monitors is that you are close enough to them that what you mostly hear is direct from the monitor. Hence "near field". The room isn't *as much* a factor. Of course, it still is a factor.

With mid fields the room is much more of a factor. And with monitors for full size studios, obviously the room and how it interacts with the monitors is everything.

So, sitting at what's basically an editing station and listening to direct sound from the monitor, I think the money is best spent all going to the monitors themselves.

Also, why wouldn't you go for the Rokit RP 8's, which you can get for that same $400 price tag?

At $400, other than the RP8 and RP6's, there's also the Yamaha HS50M. But if it were me and I only had $400, I'd probably go for the RP8 or the RP6. For really close in work at a computer monitor the RP6's might be better, although you would certainly get better bass out of the RP8's. I use the KRK V4 as my small monitors and I love them.

Sonic this is what I was thinking about the room treatment. It is a very small room. I am seriously thinking about the KRK 6's. Has anyone had experience with bluesky products?
