HI. i am currently making beats with fruity loops and they sound like they are getting played back over and over again. Can someone please tell me what i can do about this. People told me to add more melodies but i dont know what they mean. I am still a rookie so please thank you..
Thank You..

What's up Ruthless.

Not all beats need a lot of extra stuff going on, but if you talking about the beat I commented on I can tell you what I meant personally (just my opinion though).

If you take 4 bars and loop it, after hearing 16 bars or so the beat gets a little too repeatitive. So what I meant was you have a nice melody going on for you, you just need something backing it every so often like on the 6-8th bar you can bring in some strings or something for a few bars and then take them out just to add some change to your beat. Or you can add some percussion, just really anything to give it some extra flavor. That's by no means a rule just my opinion. Also, let the chorus section of the beat be known "this is where the chorus goes", if ofcourse you have that in mind. Some beats get away with being repeatitive, just depending on the beat and even then you can probably hear some subtle things going on.

I'll jump on my keyboard in a few minutes and put a little something together just to show you what I'm talking about... Give me 10-15 minutes I'll post it.

i just got into this beat making about 2 months ago.... not even that long really..... the best advice i can give you is to listen to music and producers that you like and see what they do to make there beats sound the way they do.... what kind of instruments they use and things like that....... also experiment...... mess with the stock sounds and see what u can do if u dont want to spend any money.... if u do there are lots of software VSTi and soundfonts (also some good free ones) that will help you get a more realistic sound......

im a little confused on what you mean by it sounds like they are getting played back over and over cause thats all a beat is.... just an arranged ment looped and played back..... some change ups and there you have it.........

Here's and example I just threw together. Check out the 5th bar, the 13th, and 17th (where the chorus would go in this one) that's what I was refering to. Just extra sounds to compliment the main melody.

Like Fyre said, the best thing you can do is listen to music and hear what other producers are doing. I forgot who's website has the tutorials on here I think it's money is the recipe.com or something like that you can pick up a lot just watching someone else make a beat.

EDIT:
All the vets and such... don't clown my example...lol it took all of 10-15 minutes. just trying to help the dude out.

do whatever sounds good. If you like it for 10 mins then you dont its too repetative. I had a friend come over I was in the middle of making a beat on reason. He looked at it and was lke wow thats easy. So I let him mess with it and sure enough he made a string of sounds. Thats what it was it wasnt a song at all.
make it east start with a drum line, bass, hats.
then add a melody gutiar, piano, any instrument.
then listen to it and add as needed.
Make sure to cut sum shit out in parts so it switches up.
and remember a song has a begining, middle and ending.

thanks

thanks everyone for help. specially mental.. i like the beat u made. :) thank you very much.ill try my best for the next beat i make.

Hey

Whats up. I also use fruity loops. Ive acutally been using it for about 5 or 6 years. I use to get people telling me the same thing. Whatcha gotta do is make the enitre beat in pattern 1. (which would be your master) Copy each instrument in its own pattern. Like if u used a flute, snare, and hi hat. Put the flute on pattern 1, snare on pattern 2, and hi hat on pattern 3. ect. Once you've gotten everything in its own pattern of course lable them so you know where they are and pretty much map out on the PLAYLIST where u want the hook verse and change ups. By seperating the instruments you can always just copy one to a new pattern and move things around and drop certian instruments so that it doesn't sound too repetative. Also consider puting in bridges, and solos.

I use Reason 3 myself, but I'll take 4 bars and loop it all the way to 16 (enough room for the intro, first verse, and hook. Then I'll start sequencing the intro so I get that light feel that gets you waiting for the verse to hit. Then I'll go into that first verse and pick things that make that part full but not too full cause I'll do that in the hook. Once I have it all sequenced, I'll copy the first verse and the hook for the 2nd and 3rd. I usually don't do dropouts and things like that until I've done a full song with vocals and then I'll go back to Reason, make my cuts and dropouts and then throw that beat back in Cubase.
