Right, I'm the guy who posted a thread a few days back on getting a new bass for £350-ish.

Another 2 questions.

- Anyone tried a Tanglewood/Cort Curbow? Whats your honest opinion of it? Its just theres one in my local music shop at £310, and from what I've read in a review of it in a guitar magazine it sounds like an interesting bass.

but then we go back to the same old thing with me...

- basically I WANT A FENDER! Ive been thinking about the MIM ones. But I remember the bass player newsgroup saying they were a load of old shite. But I mean come on, surley a £400-odd guitar cant be that bad? If I do go for a mim I see myself going for a precision because that what so many of my bass playing hero's use, but does the jazz give a greater tonal variety?

All opinions appreciated.

I have a MIM strat. I think it's a great guitar. The fit and finish are second to none. I think if anyone has a complaint about them, it would have to be the pickups and perhaps the six screw trem.

IMHO, the neck on mine is outstanding (rosewood).

I did audition some US strats - they did have better PU's and seemed to weigh a little less. The neck felt the same (rosewood also). I tried a few maple necks on both strats and tele's, but I really don't like the way the strings seem to hang up on the finish/varnish.

As with any guitar, you really need to play several on several different amps on several different days to really figure out what you want.

Seems so many folks want the particular guitar for the nameplate. You can buy or make a logo if you need the word for everyone to read. Buy a guitar you like. One that plays and feels good. weather it was made in your basement or in a top name shop. We hit this same thread several times now on every major manufacturer known. It always ends with a post where everyone agrees you go with the one that feels good.

when i went to pick out my guitar, i played almost everyone in there. and i picked a squire p-bass....not just cuase im cheap....but, it just felt good, its what i wanted a bass to feel like. i played a jazz bass, it was...different.....a warick, i hated it. one of those ibenez ones that look wierd, didnt like it. so i got my black p-bass. so all i gotta say, price isnt any thing, and like Even said, what feels good.
