Need some of those good ears to listen and tell me which mix sounds better. I been beating my head against the wall with this remix. Each was finalized with different plugins. Its an older cover I did and I have been messing with it for a few days now. But I am trying some new plugins and I need someone else to give opinions on the one that sounds better. I have my favorite (well they all stink). Let me know yours. The last two I didnt trim and fade the end, so there is a bunch of musical rambling. They are a little bit hotter too. Dont let the loudness sway you. I need the one that sounds best. If the majority like the one I like, then I must be heading in the right direction. Thanks

I can hardly tell the difference between the three but if I had to guess I would say song#3.

One thing I can surely say is the drum track needs work.

very subtle difference bro. the kick is pretty weak and empty. personally i think there is too much mod on the vocals. other than that... id have to say.. eh #3

The drums are what they are. They have been a problem from the start. I dont want to replay them. Its an old tune Im trying to make a little better with some tools. I figure if a take a crappy track and make it better then Ive learned alot. I guess I should post the original (really bad). Thanks for the reply, others have been choosing 2 at other forums. :)

I think I liked 3 better, but like you said, I think it's just louder.

In reality, unless you are pushing your plugins to the extreme, nobody will be able to tell the difference. The only reason people are modeling vintage compressors/eq is because that's what the guys who have been in the business for 30 years are used to using. They know exactly how they react because they've turned those knobs a million times.

Then we noobs come in and think that if we had a vintage modeled plugin, we can get good results, and still churn out crappy mixes. Instead of trying out a ton of different plugins, I suggest finding one that sounds alright and sticking with it. You'll get the best results by knowing the feel of the plugin you're using, not by using the plugin that some old guy likes the best.

As far as the mix goes, it would sound good if the performance was good. I think the guitars sound ok, but the drums are sloppy. It sounds like you tried to hide bad mic'ing technique, bad room acoustics and bad singing behind a mod effect on the vocals, and that doesn't really work.

Other than that, I think it sounds pretty good.

I cant help I stink at singing !!!!! Or the drums !!!!! The difference between all three is just eq and overal compression. Same compressor. Just different eq routes. I know its all relative to eq taste too. What I like, someone else may not. So I guess Im beating my head against the tree for no reason. Im trying to justify the purchase of a demo eq I downloaded. I need to do a proper tune and use it there. Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've been playing the drums for 10 years and I'm still sloppy. And I suck at singing. At least you gave it a shot. I just leave my songs as instrumentals.

Yeah, I went with three as well - I listened before I saw what everyone had picked.
