Is it only a remote control or a SMPTE syncronizer as well ?

I just found one but not sure if I could use it along with my my Fostex M80 reel-to-reel to be able to syncronize it with Logic.

Thanks.

 I believe its an elaborate remote, I have the Fostex 4050, and its a timecode generator/reader/remote for the E-8/16's.
If there is an in/out for smpte, It should generate, if not, just a remote.
I'm answering from reserch done 12yrs ago when I was looking at the E-16 set up.

Sure !

I now recall it only have a cable connector to the recorders.

Hey Da Mutt, would you happen to have a Service manual for the 4050? Mine died.. Only track arming works. Transport and nothing else works.

George.

Hiya,

The 4035 is only a remote control for the 4030 synchronisers. It won't work with anything else. The 4050 is an autolocator for B and E series machines, it will generate and read SMPTE, it also converts SMPTE to Midi Time Code for syncing recorded trackes with computers running midi enabled software, like Cubase, Cool Edit, Adobe Audition etc. It has a 200bar memory, and multiple memory banks. The data in these memories can also be dumped to tape, and then read back into the machine later. Records as biphase modulated binary. Pretty flash for its time.
4035/4030 also catered for pro VTRs like Sony's BVO, BVH, BVU series, and JVC pro machines. Needed dedicated transport control interfaces.
I have manuals for 4030, 4035, 4050, 4010, 4020. Can assist with DIP switch setting but not much else unfortunately - don't know what else the fault could be cept for maybe a damaged cable. Also make sure your recorder enable button is pressed and light is lit on the 4050...

Cheers Bryan
