Can I use a 1967 Crown DC-300 power amp with an old IC-150 preamp to power my mics? I don't even know if the preamp is nessecary. Also, what speakers would work best with that power amp? I have a MXL 990 Condensor and 4 Behringer XM8500 dynamic microphones. In short, What speakers should I buy?

what exactly are you doing with this setup? Live performance? rehearsal?recording? puppet show?

Mainly recording, a few small shows, and perhaps a puppet show.

ok, this is what i suggest, think about what you will be doing 90% of the time with these as what you would use to record and perform would be two completely seperate entities. For mixing depends on budget but there are plenty of passive nearfield monitors to choose from, you would have to let your ear decide that for you. If its performance you should be looking for a two way pa cabinet, prob around 200- 250 continuous. As far as what you are refering to as a preamp? I would say that you would definately need a mixer ahead of this amp to mix scources and provide the appropriate output that would be usable by the amp. hand puppets or marionetts? if marionettes u will need a headset wireless to keep your hands free;)

Ok thank you, I am not on a huge budget but I will research passive nearfield monitors more in depth. I also plan to get a mixer, probably an unpowered analog one because I intend to record as much live as possible. Thank you for the help.

lose the ic 150 (send it to me???) it's of no use for recording or playing out... it's a hifi pre... inputs for turntable and radio and tapedeck and switching to connect between them.... that crown dc300 is pretty old too... they were great amps at the time and still quite useable but watch out if it roaches as parts are getting scarce for them...
