Need help padding this room,

Okay here is an image of my studio, i will be recording everything in there except vocals i need some help on where to put padding and what padding to buy, i am trying to do this as cheap as possible.

first things first, put your monitoring setup in a place where it makes the room symmetrical from the mixing position. oh, and get your drums out of the corner (i know it seems like a great place to put them space-wise but acoustically its the worst place you can put them).

if you want to do this as cheap as possible, begin by building your own bass traps and putting them in the corners of the room.

Carpet is only good for removing echoes in office buildings. If you're recording though, since it only absorbes the high frequencies it leaves your room sounding very boomy.

I don't like foam because it gets old, it's ugly, and it burns. And it doesn't do much for lower frequencies.

Those are two different things. The panels will work down to about 100 Hz, and then you'll need the bass absorption when you get lower than that.
