Hi all,

Well it's coming down to a week or two before I begin work on my FIRST home studio. YEE HAA!!. I'm really excited about it. I'm converting a two car garage. The dimensions are about 19x19. I think I'm going with the double wall approach. I know it probably won't be 100% sound proof but I feel that it will be good enough to prevent ticking off the neighbors.

Anyway, the reason I need help is this: I have a basic idea for a plan but since this is my first attempt, I want to make sure I do things right and not leave anything out. I plan on having a control room and a drum/vocal iso booth built in the room. This garage is perfectly square so I know I need to do something about the standing waves issue. Does anyone have any pointers they can give me on things like, prefered control room size/drum room size, placement in the room (ie in the corners facing eachother with glass in between them or the two rooms hooked together), wiring issues (should I run a certain type or amount of wiring in the walls now before I have to tear them up later :).

Basically just anything that you think would help me in this type of space to get the most out of it.

Thanks you guys. Your expertise is invaluable.

God Bless!

Hey Jesusfreak,

I shouldn't recommend cross posting, but if you posted this same question down in the Studio Building and Display forum, you are bound to get some great responses from some guys who really know what they are talking about.

You'll probably get some great answers here, too. Just letting you know about the other forum in case you weren't aware of it.

Yeah, the studio building forum already has some helpful threads about this stuff. I don't have specific answers for you, but I did want to correct something we discussed earlier. I realized after looking at my setup that we used 2 kinds of soundboard, not just one. We did use the kind I mentioned earlier that more flaky and flexible. But the actual inner room is built with the solid stuff that's more like particle board (but better) and is not very flexible. I hope this didn't cause you any problems. Good luck! :)

I'm sorry everyone for posting in the wrong area...anyone know how to delete the thread?? I could delete it and move it to a different area. I sincerely didn't mean to put the wrong info here. I guess I'm really letting my newbieness pour out on this one!!:(

I would be happy to delete the post and put it somewhere else if you all would let me know how. (Really don't want to cross post)

Sorry guys.

God Bless!

Naw man, no need to be sorry - and don't worry about the cross posting in this case. Nobody in their right mind will give you any guff about it. I should've included a smiley to let you know I was being friendly :) and not trying to give you a hard time.

I have often posted something in one forum, only to realize I should've posted it elsewhere - and have done so with no ill effects.

The real cross posting violators are the ones who start the same thread in every forum. You are not one of those guys, so no worries!

I just suggested posting it there because I think you would get some great responses.

I wasn't trying to rip you for posting it in the Newbies forum, because it does belong here too.

Just offering up a suggestion, that's all.

P.S. If a guy named John Sayers responds to your thread in the other forum, don't pay any attention to him. He doesn't know what he is talking about.

Okay, that was me trying to be funny or sarcastic.

Take heed anything John shares with you. The man knows his stuff! As do others around here!

Good luck!

Go ahead, cross post man, everybody's doing it! ;)

Now I feel all bad -

JF, if you go into the Studio Building forum and start a thread, just say something like "Hey guys, I posted this up in the Newbies forum, but was told that this is where the experts hang out..."

and then paste in your above post.

Really man, didn't mean to imply you had done anything wrong by posting it in here, because you didn't!!!

Brad

Hey Brad,

No need to feel bad at all. I just wanted to make sure that everyone understood that I meant no ill to anyone or to the board by posting in a place that maybe wasn't the best place to do it. I just didn't want to upset anyone thinking I was trying to cause problems or start a bunch of garbage. The truth is, I need you guys in all this stuff that I do!! I haven't got a clue to most of this and everything you guys help me with has been great.

Thanks again for being understanding and once again, don't feel bad at all!!! :). I'll probably been needing your help in the near future anyway!! Hehe...take care man!

God Bless!
