Need Help!: Cubase LE 4 - Multiple Problems

Hello all, I'm new here and I need help on my Cubase LE 4. I'm pretty new to recording so I picked up a Lexicon Alpha. I wanted to record a few of my own songs but it's been having multiple issues which I'm sure are quick fixes but I've yet to find my way around them.

One of the issues is latency. I replaced the current driver to ASIO4ALL and lowered the buffer but I still get a good 20-30 Millisecond delay, which isn't a huge delay (in fact quite small) but it's still very noticeable.

Second issue is that when I plug my Guitar into the Lexicon, my computer is aware that the guitar is plugged in because I can play my guitar and hear it (ever so slightly, but that's my next issue) but when I attempt to record, it doesn't pick up the guitar at all and it's basically just a blank track. Strangely I didn't have this problem last night.

Finally, my last issue is the volume. It seems to be very low which is strange considering my laptop has good Audio.

This might best be posted in the Cubase forum. But besides that, did the Lexicon come with it's own drivers? If so, why don't you use them? Have you looked for updated drivers from Lexicon?

Yes it came with Alpha ASIO if that's what you're asking . I changed it to ASIO4ALL v2. I'll check out some updates now.

Okay, so I updated the driver. Audio is a lot better but the latency didn't stop. I lowered the Monitor Mix down fully to direct and there you go, the latency was great! Now I still have this recording problem. Only 1 problem left. This is most likely the easiest fix of them all, I just don't understand why it won't record. I have looked it up and apparently 'Monitor' should be clicked. I tried and it did not help.

The 'Monitor Mix' adjusts the mix of the input to the interface and the playback from the computer. If you have it fully counter clockwise, you will not hear anything from Cubase.

Check that you have the Lexicon Alpha driver enabled in Cubase. Devices>Device Setup...>VST Audio System. Then open VST Connections. Devices>Device Setup..>VST Connections. By default it may have a stereo input bus and a stereo output bus enabled. Create a mono Input bus. Then in Cubase, create a mono audio track. In the inspector window (left side of the main project screen) select that input for the channel you are trying to record to. Hit the 'Monitor' button. You should hear your input. If not, you messed something up on the way.

Setting up the VST connections in Cubase can be a pain in the ass, but you only have to do it once. Then save the setup as a template! If you don't you have to do it again :0

Do you mean by Lexicon Alpha Driver as in Alpha ASIO?



I still find latency with the drivers unless I turn Monitor mix fully counter clockwise.

As for the VST I added a Mono bus. When I click on what it should connect to it will just have the option of 'Not connected' and then Stereo 1 & 2.



Lastly, the channel. I am unsure about what to click as I only have the option to click the middle 4, 3, 2 or 1.

Yes, the ALPHA ASIO.

Your VST Connections window is showing the wrong ASIO Device. Select the Alpha as you showed from your first screenshot. Then go to VST Connections. Create a 'Mono' input bus and select an input from your Alpha. The default output should be fine.

Right above where you have circled on your screenshot of the Inspector window, click on 'Audio 1' above. That will open the correct page of the Inspector to select your input bus/output for the track. Looks like >] 'input', [> 'output'.

Then arm your track (red target) and make sure to toggle the monitor button on (looks like a side view of a speaker) right next to the record enable button. Hit record and play well.

I have figured out the channel and VST problem. Now the main one is still bugging me. I even reinstalled Cubase LE 4 but it still continues to not record anything. I can 100% hear the instrument very clearly yet it seems that Cubase does not pick up the signal between the instrument and the program. I can assure you I've set-up the VST connections correctly but I don't know what to do about this.

Everything looks fine on the last two pictures (Except you don't seem to have any time left to record. See that "Rec: 44100hz 16bit Max 0h00min" ?)
Are you sure you have set up Connections properly? In previous post it seems that you are still using Asio4all and built in soundcard. Or if you have changed anything maybe you could give us updated screenshot of the connections window?
Can you play back audio?

Hi guys. I seemed to have a bit of problem logging in but I've just come by to say thanks. Someone I know thought me the whole process. I just plug in Stereo. Been having a good time making demos out of it.
