can any of you name me a good bass for under 300 bucks that is ok for slapping and finger picking?? I'm thinkin ibanez soundgear is the answer, really not sure though. SHould I get it on ebay??

Peavey Fondation for the Basics
I bought an excellent Peavey Fondation w/ gig bag on Ebay for $185.00. I'm a guitar player & needed something for recording. It's your basic bass and an excellent value. Good inotation, 2 PUs, 2 vol. & 1 tone & micro tilt adjustment for the neck.

As far as EBay goes, it's where smart people sell and stupid people buy. And buy and buy. And compulsively overbid each other until they've paid way too much.
If you get a bargain on EBay, it's largely by the accident of the seller's placement of the auction.

And again...I bought a Peavey bass $185.00, 1990 Strat Plus/Sunburst $650.00, POD $220.00, etc ....as well selling items & coming out far better than trading at the local music store or pawn shop. I agree, there are plenty of eager beavers on ebay. Where do you think the money came from to buy the goodies?
But back to the topic, I've seen the Fender Mexican basses receive good reviews.

Steve, Im just joking, I kinda dissed the Ibanez so I figured it would be your turn to get me, but dont get me wrong I have owned some beautiful Ibanez guitars.
If you did say it sucked I would have taken it as a joke.
Anyway I bought the bass figuring I could lay down my first tracks with it to keep time better and after I layed down the track and played the piano I thought my piano was out of tune. I then realized that since I didnt have a reference to play the bass against, and not knowing there were about 3 or 4 notes between e and f, it was the bass. I cant use it for the intention it was bought for. I have to sell it and go by a fretted bass. Its a nice bass though.

That's funny!! You bought it now you can't use it (rolling in the floor laughing).
And Dragon, I do have a sense of humour, w/ or w/out medication. And I dropped the Ibanez like a sack of Korean bricks when I saw a $700.00 special on an American Fender tele (transparent blonde & ash body). I know it would holds it's value. Besides, it's a 10 year anniversary gift from wife. She'd kick my ass if I sold it!
