Welcome to all members.

Recently I have started recording my loud tube amp closed in isobox. The sound I'm getting dosen't seem to be right to my ears. I'm using JVM 410h with 2 el34 pulled out so it's working as a 50watt connected to 2x12 vintage 30 were only one speaker is working. All to reduce the overall volume.

On samples below I play thrue Ibanez 3120 with Dimarzio Steve's Special into Boss SD-1 (tone-10 drive-5) Boss NS-2 and into Marshall JVM 410H on OD2 red mode (volume-3 bass-3 middle-4 treble-6 gain-3 presence-4 resonance-4 master-6) with vintage 30.

Then 2 mics Rode m3 and Shure sm57 pointed on-axis almost touching the grill cloth in the center between edge and cone of the speaker.

Both signals go to Presonus Firestudio Project and Cubase Sx.

No eq or compression were used on these samples below.

Any help will be appreciated.

ah yes......the dual mic technique......i use to use it all the time.

but now i cant stand it.

Honestly, ive tried so much trying to use 2 mics 'up close' to the grill, and when using 2 different mic types.....yur bound to get some sort of phase issue. It may be very minor, but in your own ears....you notice it.

the only time it works well is if you close mic 2 mics of the same brand/type, and have the mic grill ends almost touching each other (yet the mics are angled away from each other like an X Y pattern)

i honestly think your best bet is to stick with one single mic. Figure out which one suits the song the best, and use only that mic. Almost 99% of the time (for me) the best placement is the center of the cone (not the center of the dust cap, which is that round dome thingy in the middle of the speaker). Its not to bright, not too dull.....and easy to mix......

Its not too bad, I like the Rode better. I would back off the gain a tad. Guitar tone is a strange thing, what sounds good when you are just practicing yourself or playing live will not always work once you put it down. If there is any way you could get hold of a hotplate or powersoak do it and put those tubes back in. Removing tubes makes an amp sound saggy to my ears.
