Dogbreath

Im an ex-spurt
OK...I did a search and came up with a bazillion choices so I figured I'd ask for a bazillion more...:D

It's a metal piccalo snare about 3, maybe 4 inches deep and I need a new batter skin. Maybe the reso too if you real drummers think I should change it.

Care to offer up your thoughts?

Much thanks....

Evans Baby!

Dogbreath,

I am a huge advocate of Evans drum heads. I used to play Remo and the batter snare would be clear inside of a week. I had an Evans batter on my snare that I didn't change for over a year (band really wasn't doing anything, didn't see the need to invest in new heads) and the coating was fine and it still held tune.

I personally like the Genera Dry heads for my snare. The dry series has little holes drilled around the edge of the head to help kill over tones. I really like my snare to be dry and crisp and smack you in the face, that's why I pick the dry heads, your taste may be different.

I always change the reso with the batter head, and again I use Evans. If you check out their website, evansdrumheads.com, they have a pretty good little device to help you pick heads to suit your style.

Hope this helps.

Remo baby!

The ambassadors do tend to wear through their coated quite quickly, but the Emperors are great. I find Evans heads really need playing in before I can get a good sound from them, Remo just sound great as soon as they're seated.

Just a youngster's opinion of course...

I have to agree on all counts with the Evans Heads.
I use them extensively, but they need a little "playing in"

I use the dry batter heads on all my snares.

I also suggest Evans dry coated. I used Remo for about 30 years and then went to Evans.........I would never go back to Remo (unless I could not find Evans within a 1 hour ride).

I thank you gents...Evans dry it is.
(sorry Bear...:D)

Appreciate your time.
