Need a little help on tuning and mic placement.

My friend just got a fostex vf-160 for christmas and we want to start recording. For now I think we will be limited to recording in his garage. He has a set of cad drum mics. He also has a tuner, but we are not exactly how he should tune his drums. I know it is good to tune to the note that the drum wants to be tuned to. How do we find out what note that this is. hey dude..yeah everytime i ask about tunning drums everyone says it depends on the style of music and your taste of whats good...umm im no expert..i wish i can help maybe i can if u have aim IM me here rufiochris581 k
 
Ok does anybody else have any tips. Does anyone know how to work the drum dial well? Other methods of tunings for a noob?
