Reecent/Inexpensive Backup Guitars

I bought an Agile PS-970 off e-bay a few months back and it's been fantastic for me. Solid Axe. Ya- I could probably upgrade a few things if i really wanted to, but there's no real pressing need. Great Value.

I need 24 frets for a couple of the songs/solos I do, so many of the guitars mentioned won't work, but I'm looking at the Douglas Fulcrum (that crazy $140 "V" guitar) and I'm thinking that, assuming the fretwork isn't completely terrible, I could get better pickups & some nice locking tuners (those Planet Waves locking/self-cutting tuners are awesome!) and end up with a pretty sweet-looking/sounding guitar for relatively cheap.

Anybody have any opinions on that specific model?

i honestly think you'd have a better guitar with one of these:

(or search Rondo for "ky1 cus") - these are set-neck, solid mahogany bodies with nice finish and they've improved the fretwork from what i read. I've wanted one of these, but ended up getting something else while these were out of stock.

Fulcrums are basswood bolt-ons, nothing much going for them. you'd spend only a few more bucks, have a more standard shape (easier to find case) and have a real nice guitar, which will be worthy of a pickup upgrade.

I've always thought that, now that everybody has access to eBay/Craigslist, pawn shops really don't have much in the way of deals any more...

Well in the Orlando FL area the pawn shops always have guitars, most shit, but every once in once in a while a gem pops up. When folks need cash they can't wait 10 days to list, sell and get paid.

Tip: When buying always go during the last week of the month and take CASH. Pawn shops deal a lot better towards the end of the month as they are trying to make budget and cash is king.
