Good call ditching them RF. I've thought about it, but always end up spending my cash on another mic or guitar. I just end up taking into account the Monitor One's deficiencies when I mix.

They're gone.... Ive sent them (Alesis) off and now I have no monitors. I now have almost nothing from Alesis except for my QSR6.1 and a couple of quadraverb GT's, which I'll keep. I'm probably (85%) going for the V6's. If not those....the Yorkvilles.

how is the sound of the yorkvilles ?

Couldn´t hear them here in germany but want to buy them as a second pair to my 8.2 active wharfis. The Amp would be an Sherwood RD-6306R AV Receiver. Isn´t the best but have an TONE DIRECT function to eliminate the EQ Section.

Need an cheap passive monitor.

I would agree with that statement.....but, What if I've listened to 2 sets of monitors and I like them both but, the spec's are different? I'm leaning toward the set that the spec's say 50 Hz to 20 kHz, ± 3 dB. The other set say's 38 Hz to 20 kHz, ± 3 dB ( ± 2 dB at 38Hz ). Maybe my ears are not trained yet to hear the difference as I have never used good monitors. Or maybe it's the song selections when listening, who knows? Getting to the big city to listen takes time and a lot of the peoples time at the stores. I just wanted to know if 50 Hz to 20 kHz, ± 3 dB was a good range? Or should I spend the extra money for the 38 Hz to 20 kHz, ± 3 dB ( ± 2 dB at 38Hz )?

the charts are good if you know who ran the test and under what conditions.

a spec or chart from the manufacturer doesn't sell me...it has to be a neutral party. hell Radio Shack has better speakers than everyone then if its all in specs!!
hell, ive worked in Engineering enviroments...some of 'em are lazy sloths that don't even do the test correctly and then make up some bllsht chart to show the manager who doesn't give a sht either!!

IMO, i tend to trust articles that can dis the units and mention strong points..amybe recommend application for the unit.."its good at this application,...sucks for this application".

i understand getting in a stalemate on a decision tho... read on, good luck

did read today an old german keyboard magazine shootout of active studio monitors, where the krk v8 ( i think the old version, the test is older ) wasn´t good enough in listening test with adam p11 / dynaudio bm6a / event2020bas / klein&hummel0100

Their budged recommendation was Event tr6 !!

They didn´t look at the specs and made their decisions only with listening to them.

The winners were adam p11 and genelec 1030A

It´s interesting that the bigger versions p22 and 1031A were also there but they find them really not good enough and choose the versions with smaller woofers !!

The Alesis MKII's aren't bad monitors at all, they are very clean, smooth and natural sounding. Translate very well. I like the fact that they have a such a clean and defined low end because it helps me hear what my bass is doing. Unlike other monitors like the Wharfe's and York's, you can't really hear too much of what the bass is doing. This would be problematic when mixing Rap, Rock, and Metal which is what I mostly do. Not saying the Wharfe's and York's are bad, just the MKII's get better bass responce which REALLY helps. Overall, the MKII's don't have a lack of mids or hyped up highs, they are very balanced with a little more (and better in my case) bass responce.

They are dead flat (and very tight) down to 39Hz and can even put out an audible undistorted 20Hz.

Now, I agree with you on the Wharfedales mind you... they start getting funky below 80Hz and they have a bump around 120....

I have also heard the MkII's. My impression was that the bass was better than most nearfields of their size but still not as low or tight as the YMS1P's. It seemed to stop somewhere in the mid to high 40's.

Weaknesses of the Yorkvilles are in slightly scooped areas in the low mids and around 4Khz, and slightly boosted fizzly 9-14Khz range.

First off I'd like to thank you for not calling me a stupid ass since it seems that I'm the only one defending the MKII's.
Anyway, I have heard the Yorks but do not own them so I don't have as much experiance with them as I do with the MKII's. I like the Yorks just as much as the MKII's accept for the fact that it just didn't seem like they carried as much bass for my liking. Mind you that these are my ears that are telling me this which could be totally different from what you may hear. But the Wharfe's were out of the question for me because the just didn't have that low end KICK that I find in the MKII's. Plus I really like the fact the Woofer on the MKII"s are made of non-woven carbon fiber which is 25% lighter than polyproylene and twice as stiff which seems to give it a very tight, low, and thick bass response. I do like the York's though.
