No, I'm not joking, there's is a studio in Santa Yenz, CA, called STUDIO 154 which uses these same monitors. They are really good for mixing, I've put out some nice mixes with these and they translate very well. You can't say the same about the Behringer Truths.

Are we talking about actives or passives?

Well i got passives, maybe its the amp that makes them hype the hi's and kill the mids, and boost the lows...........?

Ehh who knows, you want to buy them since you likem so much?lol

Ha, very funny. :( :D
I really like mine and do professional work with them and no complaints here. I just wish they cost more, cause it seems like thats what makes a big difference in what people hear.lol

Wow, this is ammusing. Just because a few people like a certain product does not make it good. On the same token, just because a bunch of people hate something does not make it bad either. Monitor one's to me filled a really nice gap. When they came out there was not near the influx of cheap monitors back then that there were today. They were the first pair of actual studio monitors that I ever owned. However, I soon outgrew them and made a switch to KRK Kroks. There was a huge difference. The lows were not as pronounced, but were smoother and more realistic. The KRK's also did not create near the fatigue that the monitor ones did. If I had to pick between them today, hands down I would pick the KRK's. Then I made the move to Dynaudio. Once again, huge step up. I still haven't found a pair of passive monitors that run under $1500 new that even come close to what the Dyanudio stuff does. Bottom line though, is that monitors especially are very subjective. First of all, everyone talks about the need for a monitor to be flat. If there were such a beast, mixing would REALLY suck. None of our mixes would ever translate at all. A really nice monitor has a BALANCED response. It will also have acuurate detailing, better imagery, and a wider listening field in which you can mix. The monitor ones in my opinion do not offer any one of those things. They may work for you today, but 6 months from now your ability may have progressed to the point where you find that a better monitor (not even necessarily more expensive) may be of some value to you.

FLAT RESPONSE- no such thing.....
i just wasted abunch of time on some DIY SPL meter thing, i thought up..
the reality of others inputs saying "the test data is crap"
was proven true again..it really was crap. and proven to be crap data by myself (and other mics).
I used a SM7/JMpreamp and testtone cd. Setup at 1khz 0db.
then test tones went thru the range at -10db...and majority lined up.
but the dips and peeks... well who knows what caused them right?
there's too many holes, issues, details.
so i agree there is no such thing as "flat", there is no "one fix"..and the RS SPL meter is crap too.(did that last year).

you can improve, thats as optimistic as i get for being SPL flat.

Upgrading monitors...
hearing details and clarity in good monitors, i can dig that.

all i'd say is my BW303 were the sht until i heard some others with more detail..side by side, A/B in my HR palace...
this is the kinda stuff that makes me want to take a testdrive for even more detail, whtever it is... usually it costs more... Ferrari and an Escort.

Goodland, have you A/b'd other monitors and you still like the MK's better?
or you just saying you can mix just as well on either..the latter being impressive (skills).

tally ho...

I have A/B's the Truths B2031, Wharfe's, Yorks, KRK 6's & 8's, and the BX8's.

Truths - Do not even compare period. They sound like they are in a some sort of Box, not natural at all.

Wharfe's - Everything was very accurate about them but there was a lack of low end.

York's - Very natural and detailed, would have taken them instead but the were $60.00 more and they seemed to perform the same.

KRK 6's - Had a "small" sound to them, and lack of low end as well.

KRK 8's - Very accurate, detailed and natural sounding with the low end I was looking for but also $200.00 more  for not too much of a difference in my ears. I would take the RP8's over the M1's though.

BX8's - Now I could see how people could think that all thes are, are Hi-Fi speakers. Mushy lows and hyped high's.

damn good stuff.... decent comparison.
i don't think it's all about how much it costs either,
but its hard to deny overwhelming good press on differnt forums and non monetary driven.

there's probably valid reasons Dyn BM5's-thru-15's, Genelec, Adam's etc.. sell. Never had the chance to hear them, buit gut instinct says they're worth the $$.

Yorks...never had the chance to hear them, but hard to ignore the great HR press over and over.
very tempting to order some, at times,
even tho i have JBL Control 5's that cost ~$600 new, and the BW303's.
and the Yorks at $230.90 pair...may very well be better "detailed" as you said.

gearfever..always

Korg Soundlink DRS RM8 Reference Monitors

These were introduced back in '96 - '97. Very Stable and accurate. 7 inch deep channel design; 1" kortec/neodymium dome tweeter.

I have tried others and always revert back to these Korg Soundlinks. Paid $119 for both of these brand new at a closeout 1999. Would have gladly paid more based on their performance. Would not give these monitors up.

behringer truths! for under 300$ pretty close sounding to the mackies from my ears.

I voted for KRK because I have the RP5's. They definately arent the best monitors around, not much low end frequency, but they are well constructed, good quality, good monitors for the money. I got mine for 299 for the pair with a free akg mic on ebay.

Hey, check out this old thread. Apparently about three and a half years ago I was toying with the idea of starting a speaker company.

Wonder what ever became of that? :D

love those speakers. what i like is the woofer is right there and not a seperate sub cabinet.

i played around and put my sub woofer on top in between my monitors, right in my face kinda thing.

it works, i guess, one can do this.....
er...i guess you can do anything you want really?

but the mix came out ok so I kinda like it right in face, up close as I have a bedroom/studio very sparse.

anyway great idea with the subs built in.

I use horrid roland DS-9s they hiss like buggery, i hate roland but still buy their products. I'm dum. Who puts the power switch at the back of a studio monitor? That's probably why they hiss, i can't be bothered going round the back to use the stupid hard to get to round-the-back power switch. so i just leave them on. All day, all night. Hissing constantly.

I'd be quicker asking the local power station to turn off it's supply rather than using stupid roland switch crap.

I'm convinced thats a PC tower, not a monitor
