Alright, Aardvark 24/96 goes on for 500 bucks at marsmusic.com (comes with cakewalk too, though I'm not sure what program i want to use, i have a few actually, if you could make a suggestion from Cubase, Cool edit, N-track, and Cake i'd be very happy!) .... impressive if you ask me, and Omnistudio is 400 bucks. I don't have any preamps, or big time computer hardware, but have what i need to record. Which one should I get?? I'm not doing midi. Which preamps are better?? Just want opinions. I know I posted a very similar post before, and I'm very sorry, but I now have the option of an Aardvark 24/96. So please take the poll.

Omni Studio is $379 at MF and comes with Delta Logic software....refresh my memory on your computer specs and what you will be recording.....

I can use Cubase, N-track, Cool Edit, and Cakewalk, though right now I use the first 2, mainly cubase. I use one shure SM57 (ahhh shut up :D ). I record through my Crate GX212 amp, and use a Boss GT-3. I haven't done any midi, but might someday. I record guitar, bass, vocals, drums (yea with one mic). Gidge man do you have some sorta Instant messenger we can keep in touch with?? I think we have a lot in common (put aside our age :D )

have 3 24/96's and one LX6

AArdvark says to look for wdm driver in september!!woohoo as all my video editing is with premiere 6 on win2000pro and it is a big step up from 98se or WINME.

Honestly think you will like 24/96 you may find better 'spec's but the end result (you know, the sound?) is very musical and not at all harsh (to me, and of course YMMV)

For the software, you should stick to the one you already know.

so.....
what is the difference in quality?
I might need 4 preamps sometime, but I think now I only need 2 for drums. (i use 2 mics). Are the preamps a big difference in quality, the same?? and how is the musical difference between cards?? (is the aardvark nicer?)

musicdarkangels.....heres the deal your quality in preamps and sound cards makes a big deal in the end. You can use your soundcard that came with your comp. but as you might notice it has well.. i don't know the word but its a bad sound. First of all you are going to need to get a digital audio card. That will improve the sound around 75%. There are two compainies i would go with aardvark and echo. Great compainies!! Aardvark sound cards will give you 95% better sound on the direct pro line. Echo cards will give you about 90% better sound . But aardvark is more expensive the echo so if you are on a budget then go with echo. Now for preamps I have always sworn by behringer. Sooo i don't know to much about preamps. But depending on how many people you want to record simutaneously then you will need to get more preamps but.. you should be able to get away with 2- 2input preamps. But once you start racking up the preamps start thinking about a digital mixer like mackie or behinger. Now for the first question on the board you asked I will get to that. For the aardvark 24/46 i think that was what it was called.. i would instead go with the omni studio. But... remember that is only my opinion. I have tied both and i just felt that the onmi studio was easier to work with. Well hope i helped ya. Good luck.

Buy the Aardvark. It sounds better, period. I am not sure why, probably the clock. Preamps are ok. I have four of them. Good luck.

Be aware that the Cakewalk product that comes with the unit (24/96) is probably Pro Audio 9 and that Cakewalk does not gaurantee it will work with Windows XP. Supposedly some folks have got it to work with XP but some research is probably in order.

I had this issue when I bought the Q10 and ended up upgrading to SONAR XL. I'm extrememly happy with my Vark!
