Hi,

I currently happen to record a piano competition and some private auditions using an old Nagra III which works great. I also just put a hand on a Nagra E but I don't like being limitated to 7.5ips. Currently, I can record without loss on these two ones, meaning that I can immediately switch to the other before the tape ends.
As I really want to move to stereo and large reels, the Nagra IV-S with QGB would be optimal in my opinion, but it's really too expensive for me at the moment considering the prices on ebay.
I thought about other places like studios or radios which passed to full digital and would eventually sell that stuff more to clean up to space rather than look for the highest price.
Any ideas where I could ask ? Or who has that stuff for sale ?

Else, I'll try to save more money but only for the LB, mostly because it's lighter and allows infiinte recordings with the hot swap possibility.

Thanks !

David.

Man, that would be so cool to have one - but they are expensive. I'm always combing the classifieds & such looking for one. I've never seen one go cheap.

How portable to you need to be? I think you could make a great recording with something like a Tascam 22. You only get 7" reels, but the deck is not all that large - and it will do 15ips. It seems relatively portable if you need it to be. You can find those in good shape for a couple of hundred bucks at most.

Guess I'm lucky with two nagra 1v-s and 3 QGBs.It is important to line up electrically/servos on the QGB to the Nagra.
They can be swapped about but work better if kept
with each machine.I have the user guide and they can be quite vicious when lacing up .
I've seen QGB's sell for more than the nagras.
A much cheaper option would be a Revox/Studer which would have 10.5 inch reels as standard.
Many broadcast studios are getting rid.
Also lyrec made a recorder called a frieda ? which is fairly portable.
Anyhow if you need any help drop me a note.

I finally located a IV-S late last year. Prices seem to have been climbing. I've seen a few go for over $5k on Ebay without the QGB.
