Metal dude
Anybody have or used the nady drum mics????? I been looking at the 3 mic kit( $100) & 5 mic kit ($150). I think there DM70 (130db spl) an DM80 (145 db spl). THere pretty damm cheap mics. For$150 I could mic out my whole kit. And there failey small and would fit over the toms nicelly. Im strapped on the cash-tightlly.
Anyone got the low down on these mics??????

Do yourself a favor, find some Shure SM-57s. There's a reason why they're a VERY popular instrument mic. They just work. You could probably find them used for about what the Nady stuff costs. And you won't outgrow them as cash becomes less of an issue.

You could also buy a $20 mic from WalMart and mic a whole kit with it....the trick is doing it well.....

Id say you have to spend at least $350......

a shure sm57 on snare
at atm25 on kick
pair of Marshall 603's as overheads

if you wanna go cheapie

get this package and a sm57

the mxl1000's with the ball off sound identical to the mxl603's, so put those on overheads...put that fox mic on the snare....and the sm57 on kick......$230

when you can afford a good kick mic, move the sm57 to snare.....

I just got a new kit and all I need to mic with is the overheads.

I found an old set of pearls styled like the simmons sets but no cymbles, I guess that back then they couldnt Make cymbles sound good on such a kit.

Problem is I dont want to hear the sticks hitting the pads MAYBE Ill just put a filter in line to cacell out the low freqencies.

Recording Magazine has a review on drum mic kits in the Nov 2001 issue. Check it out.
