Thanks for the quick reply participant! My thoughts were leading more towards slack as well.

As soon as I can, Im off to get a preamp! Do You think the MAudio Audiobuddy will work for me.. just to get started?

Yes it will.
You only need to think about getting the right cables. The Audiobuddy has two mono 1/4'' jack outputs and your soundcard most likely a 1/8'' stereo input.

Yeah, I already have all the cables and stereo inputs. I talked to "modus" about an ART preamp, and I think im going to go with that one instead of the MAudio Audiobuddy.

DBX tube pres

Hey,

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but the DBX tube pre is a great alternative to the ARTs. Just as cheap, but they sound, WAY better. I just got one for $50 off EBAY...Way stronger, much brighter/more vibrant. Unless you're like Barry White or somethin' don't bother with the ART. They're kinda neat on bass guitar + kick drums, but they seem to favor low end freq's for some reason.......and they can be noisy also. Don't know if Slack's tube replacement would fix that but...DBX pres are I think a well kept secret in the low cost range.....

Another thing to consider, if you're used to tape----tubes, even a cheap one---will give alotta warmth + personality to digital recordings.

Good luck!
