I just recently upgraded from recording everything with a microphone and my sound card. Here is my equipment following the signal flow:

1. ibanez gax10
2. digitech rp2000 DEP
3. ampeg 2x12 guitar amp
4. shure sm57
5. mono channel 1 from alesis studio 24
6. main output to digidesign mbox input 1
7. usb to my laptop and recording with pro tools 5.3 LE

my question is, is this going to work or am i going to need an amp in between 5 and 6.

we also plan to mic bass and drums and vocals in a very similar way. so as far as tracking goes, what am I missing?

No amp between 5 and 6, unless you WANT to blow up the Mbox....
To listen to what you hopefully has recorded, you need an amp(and speakers), wired to the Mbox line outputs.

I was planning to do an output from the mbox to the tape in's of the alesis and listening to them in the headphone amp of the alesis.

hopefully that will work.. we don't have a compressor besides my guitar pedal has one.
