My ongoing ebay saga with my Les Paul purchase

Congratulations!

Better than having to make a claim. I had to pull the trigger last year on a guitar that I bought off e-bay that was damaged in shipment. UPS returned it to the seller who then strung me along on the damage claim. All the while he was trying to sell it again on e-bay. I finally had to have Mastercard reverse the charges, which they did quite promptly after I provided them with documentation of the whole sordid affair. A PITA and I'm glad you've avoided it.

Enjoy the guitar!:D

All kidding aside, you wouldn't believe what pony hair can do for tone though!

Oh yes I can;)

See.... When I read your original post my first thought was this guy is just not giving the beloved postal service enough time to kick the can across the country. I had a feeling you were not getting scammed but rather staring into to the black abyss of a bureaucratic governmental body like USPS. Glad it all got sorted.

Good to hear that it finally arrived!! Pictures expected :)

The USPS tracking system really sucks.

True dat. I think the USPS has a lotta nerve even calling it a "tracking system". It tells you when the item entered their system, and then there is no information on it until they show it as delivered, but of course by that time you already know it's delivered because you have it. The rest of the time it's just in a black hole and it could be in there for days, weeks, or forever; you've got no way of knowing.

Whenever I order something, I always reject USPS delivery, even if it's free, and if I can't find a way to do that on line, I call them on the phone and tell them if they insist on sending it USPS, I'll buy it somewhere else.

end rant

Another vote to avoid USPS. I ordered some movies via Ebay for Christmas presents, did the order in early Nov, should have before Thanksgiving. 3 weeks later, nothing.. contacted the vendor, and find out he's about a mile from my house! He put a tracer on the package, they couldn't find it.

Next time the guy went to the post office for a drop, he stopped by my house, and put copies inside the door since my place was on the way. He eventually found out that the original package was in Colorado. We live in Kentucky. Quite a detour, eh?

Now how could they lose $3 billion a year? Oh yeah, they mailed it!

Sarge Glad to see it all worked out for you

Ha, yeah I know. That part threw me for a loop when I first started foolin around. A buddy of mine plays a ton of instruments but no strings. He literally handed it to me one day. I need to get that thing out again.

learn the scales and get your bowing technique down and you will be set
lots of good instructional websites on the internet that will get you headed in the right direction.;)

glad to hear it worked out and you got your guitar...

personally i would have been looking for him with a baseball bat :)

Just wanted to share my current Guitar purchase over Ebay experience and maybe get some advice since I am sure many here have purchased guitars over Ebay before.

What really sucks about this is that this was my first Ebay purchase so I can tell you my experience has not been a fond one.

Back on February 16th I won a bid on Ebay for a Les Paul double cut.

I paid, through paypal on the ebay site, probably within 30 minutes. I contacted the seller and he responded quickly.

He told me he would ship it out the next day. So I email him the next day for the tracking number and he says he hasn't had a chance to mail it just yet and he will do it tommorow.

Tommorow comes and I email him again (Feb 18th). He replies with a USPS parcel post tracking number. Now I have 2 problems with this.
1. In his listing, he listed UPS ground, Not USPS
2. Tracking with USPS parcel post only provides 2 updates, the first is when the label is printed(which can be done at home online), the second is when it arrives at the post office it will be delivered from. So I have no visual evidence when he actually drops it off at the post office. Originally I did not know this. I thought the tracking number meant it had been dropped off. I found out later through research this was not the case.

So, a week goes by and nothing. After reading the parcel post times on the internet I was not surprised, especially since I live on the east coast and the guitar is coming from the west coast. So I email on February 26th him letting him no I haven't recieved the guitar yet. He responds that that is wierd but to give it more time as parcell post can take up to 9 days.

Now, another week goes by, and no guitar. So April 3rd I email him again and I ask him when he actually dropped it off at the post office. He responds February 24th. Needless to say I am p!ssed at this point. I am even more p!ssed that he didn't say that when I emailed him on the 26th.

So I reply that I had thought he had mailed it on the 18th, but that I would continue to wait.

If he really did mail it out on the 24th, I would expect the guitar no earlier then the end of this week beginning of next.

With that in mind my plan going forward is this. If I have not recieved the guitar by the end of next week I am going to request a full refund. If he declines I am going to file a claim on paypal. If Paypal give me any problems I will dispute it with my Credit card as well.

I am fairly new with paypal and such. With a refund though, I want to make sure I get every penny back. Is there a way I can make sure that if he does pay me back I am not charged some transaction fee.

If he does give me a refund this will be an obvious sign to me that he never sent the guitar and that he probably just didn't like the price he got for it.

Secondly, let's suppose I do get the guitar. I still want to give this guy negative feedback. But if I give him negative feedback, could he not then make some stuff up on me and give me negative feedback thus hurting my chances when I want to bid on other stuff?

To the guys credit (only positive I can think of), he has been easy to get in touch with. He responds to every email I send within a reasonable amount of time. But this is just infuriating me.

If anyone has gone through similar circumstances and could offer some advice it would be appreciated.

Thanks

My advice is to treat any fees as a good learning experience. Buying anything of worth off of eBAY is not a good idea.

I try not to buy used gear. I also try not to sell it. I've been hosed too many times. I figure there's a reason it's being sold, and that the reason the seller lists are almost never true.

Caveat Emptor

Nice looking guitar :) :)

Out of curiosity is the postmark on the box he sent it in and does it match what he told you?

Never even thought to look. But he has paid me back the shipping anyway.

Since he did that I feel he did right by me.

Every peice of gear with the exception of the white ESP you see in the picture and the Mesa 2x12 is used.

I don't disagree with your premise though. You definately have to be carefull, which can be difficult buying gear online. But I have done very well with used gear.

Picked up a Mesa Road King combo that had some tolex damage for 1000 bucks. Spent an additional 200 for supplies and built a head cab for it.

Paid 800$ for my Mark IV head. I spent 100$ having a needed mod done on it and 80$ for new tubes. Runs like a champ.
