My kicks sound like crap!

I can't get my kicks sounding good. I don't think I've ever made a beat in my life that the kicks sounded good. I''ve read hundreds of articles, but they all basically revolve around making my own judgments. Apparently, my judgement for the low end totally blows! So if any of you have specific ideas or even some samples of good, not to be tweaked kicks, send em my way. You have no idea how much I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Stray. Also, I'd like to know where you and anyone else who wants to reply place your kick level. How loud do you put them... also the bass. I have a lot of trouble with low end. I can never get it sounding right. I used to, by default, keep my kicks and bass at like -9 so that together they might reach -3, but lately, I've been going way higher and I'm not sure if it's helping. I try to compare my mixes with commercial mixes, but its useless, because I can never get my bottom sounding like Dre's. Any help in this would be cool too. No articles please. I read 'em all. Only personal preferences.

Basically I just use Acid Pro 3.0 and Cool Edit Pro. No out board equip. except my keyboard. Nothing special there. I use a lot of samples.
