I finally figured out how to attach a few pictures of my home studio.

In the wee wee hours of the morning, when I cant sleep, I stumble down the stairs to my "Happy Place" and before I know it, I've spent 2 hours recording a little guitar overdub, and now I am really ready for a few more hours of sleep! :p

Hey Dom, thanks for sharing, nice "happy" places to be. And I see you are in Beaverton. I'm in Coos Bay. Small world huh? And welcome to the board. See ya around.

VERY cool sir! Everyone should have a happy place to go to for "therapy" :D
Mikey likes it.

Very cool
If you don't mind me asking, roughly what are the various room sizes?
I have an area that is roughly 12 x 16 that I am planning for a studio. I'm not sure if I should carve it up into small rooms or just leave it as one big room.

Hello woodzmo, excuse me for buttin in with my .02, but if it were me, I'd keep that as one room as it is already NOT that big. When you divide off space with isolation walls, they use up precious square footage, and before you know it, your rooms are 10x12 or less. The smaller the room, the smaller the wavelengths of mode distribution, and bass becomes even more difficult to deal with, as the absorption devices also use up space. Bigger rooms sound better to record in too, as you can use the natural reverb in the room, just tamed to reduce boominess and flutter echos.

I would agree with FitZ2

My live room is about 12 X 14 and I wish I had left it bigger. I can get a 4 piece group in there if I have to, (Bass, Drums, Guitar and Kbd) but it gets really crowded.

I could have saved room elsewhere. The Drum room is 7 X 12 apx. Control room 8 X 12 apx. Isolation booth is 5 X 6, and I have a hallway, closet and extra bedroom available right next to the live room for extra separation if needed.

The rooms all have half soft walls and half reflective walls, and many of the musicians have commented on how good the rooms sound!

I usually track full bands with the drums in the drum booth, and guitar amps in other rooms mic'd up and the players in the control room. Sometimes we have the vocalist in the control room doing a scratch track, or Isolated trying for a live good take.

This is my third home studio, and I still would do things a little different next time. I always need more space!

DOM

Thanks for the replies, that is what I figured but wanted to ask anyway.

Thanks again

Hey cool studio, man. I'm jealous. I think your most important piece of gear is that coffee mug warmer you've got by your board. Gotta keep that caffiene warm and accessible at all times!! My best stuff gets recorded about 3 or 4 cups in. Gets the brain going.
