I figured I should get in on listening to some Gorty tunes since I'm now a member of the elite Gorty cult, the GFCG (see below for proof)

Wow! This is hot playing! Excellent recording quality too! Everything sounds excellent to my mixing-impaired ears :D

A WAH-donerful recording :)

Just don't let it all go to your Wah-wah!! :D :p

First off.... The guitars are LUSH! That is one hell of a sound. I could spend all day listening to stuff like that and telling you how much I dig it but I'm gonna concentrate on the rest of the mix as that's what you PM'd me about.

The Bass..... it's been mentioned that it could come up some. I agree to an extent but I also think a high pass filter on your guitars, or a low cut maybe between 80-120Hz would give it some breathing space and a boost in the 2-3K region might give it some string ping and deffinition.

Your drums...... I think your programing it top notch, samples aren't too bad. Snare is a tad on the loud side and the reverb is a bit too evident. I always had this trouble when I started recording my own stuff. Don't have the space or skills for real drums so that was always the weak point in my own stuff. I invested in a pro samples real kits CD rom, velocity sensitive hits, chromatic snares, etc and started making my drum tracks in fruity loops then exporting each track into cubase for the mixdown.

All I can say is it sounds super clean and very well balanced. You've got the ear and that's all that counts. Don't know if they are still going on but the PMCs in this forum helped me a lot with mixing real drums before I had the chance in the real world.

My jaw drops at those guitars! You don't have to be a lumberjack to be skilled with an axe ;) Keep it up

Hey LemonTree,

Thanx so much for the listen, advice and compliments. I will have a dabble with the guitars and the settings. The drums have just been tweaked a tad and the reverb I added (albeit a tad too much).

Thanx for the feedback on the guitars, I would like to get that breathing space more evident as you mentioned.

Thanks again LemonTree, your critique is greatly appreciated! :)

Gorty!

You've got really good guitar chops Gorty. That's pretty intense... and well mixed.

Haha, I forgot to meantion I voted "BRUTAL LAWNMOWER" hot like 30 times... I don't know if all that counts, but I did it :D

I just gave Gorty's tune some more lovin' too :)

Gorty,
I went back to relisten. I'd actually checked out the site with your 4 tracks yesterday & enjoyed. pity I couldn't download an MP3 without registering.
This time I used h'phones as the wife is watchin' telly. Yesterday I pumped it through the old Toshiba stereo system I've attached to my 'net computer. It sounded really good through the stereo but was heaps better through the 'phones.
I'm a Cry Baby. I just love wah wah. Which Wah pedal do you use?
I have a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix which is nice but yours has an entrirely different flavour to my scratchy brick.
The track is great. I really like the drum mix. I just can't mix drums so am awed by anyone who can.
The track reminds me of a couple of Dino Jr B sides in that J Masic is, similarly, capable of keeping interest through a whole track as well just raging away.
I'm not a fan of tapping mate, that all came after my formative era - the pub rock into punk years - BUT I think it provides an appropriate pallet cleanser before the return of the plectrum & Wah!!!!!!
Back to the point! Australia is still the land of the guitar music - thanks for keeping that way.
Cheers

Thanx rayc for the listen, I appreciate it. I used the Dunlop Original Cry Baby Wah Wah. It has a slightly smoother more rounded tone than the Jimi Hendrix brick!

Thanx again! :)

hi, this tune sounds very tight and is well mixed. And your a talented guitarist.
My only critisism would be the drums. I don't think they do it justice. maybe it would be worth your while looking into using drum samples.

Thanx fasterthanu for your time taken to listen and your comments.

I fully understand the drum thing, it can be so complicated trying to create your own patterns sometimes. Samples would be a great addition to my arsenal!

Thanx again, I appreciate it very much! :)
