Try a Zoom 506II. I swear by it. Also, try experimenting with using a pick. Ignore what the purists say; sometimes a song requires that edgy attack a pick provides.

well, i got the sansamp...going to try it out soon.

My brother works at Mars music...so, with his discount it was only $135...just from the construction of this thing it was worth that.

Also the neatest thing about it is it uses phantom power...rockin.

i'll post word on how it sounds after first run.

ok, well...i messed with it for a few minutes...and, I am not a bass player...so, i can't get a good tone out of it...but, here are my impressions:

When I first turned it on, it sounded awesome coming through the monitors...definately thick and fat...just the tone I was looking for. So...the box is there...it definately rocks.

But, when I recorded it in nuendo...(24bit)...it sounded totally different than what was coming out of the monitors just playing it live.

It was like...muddy...and distant...and...totally different frequency response....just bad...

So, I don't get it. If it would have recorded exactly what was coming out of the monitors while I was dialing in the tone...then I'd be jumping up and down about it...

which kind of makes me think maybe I have a bigger problem here? What do you guys think I could change...do differently..etc.

If that's as good as a digital recording can do with an analog sound (obviously it isn't...plenty of great digital recordings out there) then that sucks. Supposed to get out exactly what you put in eh...hmm, not happening for me right now...thoughts?
