My attempt at Dylan's "You Ain't Going Nowhere"

So, last weekend I thought I'd take break from school work and record a few tunes in my apartment. This particular song is a cover of Dylan's "You Ain't Going Nowhere." As you'll hear, I'm not much of a mandolin or harp player, but it sure was fun to record. Also, I sang a couple of different words in the chorus. Whoops. Any comments or suggestions would be great. Thanks, folks.

Damn - I played this eons ago with Kenny MacNeil!!!! You probably don't know him....but I assure you he was an excellent folkster......

I must say that you nailed this man. Your vocals are outstanding! You have a great feel to the singing that, although similar to Dylan, has a nice original flavor to it.

Guitars and bass carrying this pretty well.

Did pretty good job on the harp and mandolin too - I was suitably impressed.....

This is a great version - hope you don't mind - I'm downloading this one...... ;)
 
BTW - your location is Sackville - in N.S. by any chance? ( I have family there). :cool:
 
Great stuff! I used to play this witha friend of mine. It's sucha fun song! Mandolins awesome man!
 
Man...that was really cool...I really dig the vibe of your music....both this and "The Band" cover you posted a while ago were extremely tastefully performed/recorded....no nits here...just digging it!

ido1957 - You were close when you guessed Sackville, NS. I actually go to school at Mount Allison University, which is in the other Sackville (in New Brunswick).

Cool - my parents moved the family to Halifax in the 70's. Parents still live there along with a sister..... Cool to see someone from N.B. on this BBS....

Would adding a little banjo to this song make it too busy?
 
Wow very similar to Dylan. Your voice has that dylan touch and i love it. Mandolin is right on. Your harmonies are there and im loving this jam. Ive never even heard this dylan song and I have like 6 of his albums.

Being only 17 its hard to hear em all in such a short lifespan there are so many.

It'll probbaly trip on the mandolin if you're playing tenor banjo and are tuned G D A E.

Thanks a lot. The version of the tune I have is off of the Essential Bob Dylan CD. It may also be on some incarnation of the Basement Tapes, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, thanks for the comments.

Great sound man. I always liked this song and this is a very good version of it. Its a really good mix as well.

I do record my own music, but haven't done any in a while. I've been too busy with school to sit down and finish any songs, so in order to scratch my desire-to-record itch I've decided to take a few hours and record a few cover songs every once in a while.
