I bought this microphone set from Musician's Friend for $169.00 to replace my Samson CL7 which started to crap out on me. Well I get the mics out, set them up and start recording. First off, the MXL603 is a really good mic for recording guitar. I can't say the sam for the MXL2003. I went to record vocals with it and it literally sounded like I was cutting my vocals in a tin can. It was VERY echoy and tinny. No matter where I re-positioned it in the room, it sounded like this.

So I'm shipping these boogers back and I'm just going to try and replace my Samson CL7 with the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions or should I just pack 'em up adn ship them back?

Thanks,
Don

Ok, I must be retarded because I'm not sure what side is the front on this particular mic. I'm guessing that if it sounded so bad, I must've been singing into the back? Boy, you guys must be having a blast with me, lol.

I will give that a try tomorrow and report back to you guys and let you know.

Again, any other feedback is grately appreciated from you all!

Thanks,
Don

I have a set of the MXL V93m (the same as the MXL 2003 but it was made for Mars Music). It is a very bright sounding mic but it works well on male vocals for me.

Don't sing into the side with the HPF/ 10db pad switch sing into the other side.
