I know there are sonic differences between the MXL 67v, 57v and 2001p. But could anyone fill me in on electronic differences? Are the diaphrams the same? with different pre-amps? How Different are the pre-amps if so? Is it maybe just the at the 67v has a better transformer? I'd really like to know what the difference between these mics are. Is it just due to a few filter cap values that make the 2001p sound harsh to Harvey's ears?Or is it just a few lower end op-amps? Thanks for Any help.

I haven't heard the V57, but I can answer your questions about the difference between the V67G and the 2001P. They are identical internally, with the following exceptions:

The V67 has an improved transformer which reduces the high end ringing of the 2001 transformer, and smooths the response.

The V67 uses lower noise J-FETs and some improvements were made in the associate capacitors and resistors, resulting in about a 5dB drop in self-noise.

The different housing is one of the biggest contributors to the difference in sound between the two microphones.

There might be some other differences, but these are the major differences, according to Brent Casey.

Thanks Harvey. Pretty much as I expected. Has anyone out there mod'd there 2001p or 57v? to warm up the sound? Seems like the next logical step for us cheap homerecordist. Does anyone have the schematics for either mic? Would there be any way to improve the housing of the 57v and 2001p? to prevent the shrillness?? BTW thanks for all your great posts Harvey.
