MXL-603s Level?!

So, I had my first "official" session on Saturday recording a friend's daughter playing a spinnet piano (a smaller upright). For some reason I couldn't seem to get my Marshall MXL-603s up to a decent level. Here was the setup:

Pair MXL-603s --> Behringer Pro MIC2200 Channel 1 & 2--> Delta 1010 --> Vegas Audio

Rode NT-1 --> M-Audio DMP2 --> Delta 1010 --> Vegas Audio

The LED on the Behringer showed the MXL-603s at 0 but the Delta 1010 Mixer/Monitor AND Vegas showed a much smaller signal of about -40. The Rode NT-1, on the other hand, going through the DMP2 was HOT, HOT, HOT!

I have two DMP2s and I had wanted to send all mics through those. However, for some reason, I could only get one channel on one of the the DMP2s to send phantom power :-(. But... that's another issue.

So, I have three tracks. One great track with the NT-1 and two quiet tracks. I really wanted to create a nice, round mix using all three tracks. Is all lost? Am I stuck just using the NT-1 track?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response, TubeDude.

Yup. They're set right. That's the first thing I checked.

So, I did some testing this evening using the one channel on my DMP2 that works and the Behringer MIC2200. When using any mic. with the DMP2 the signal is strong and, for the most part, clean. When I put the same mic. through the MIC2200 the LED shows a hot signal but the Delta AND Vegas say differently.

So, the verdict is that it seems the MIC2200 does not accurately report the output level in it's LEDs.

Very disturbing.

Now, I just have to send my DMP2s in for repair :( However, after they come back I'll have 4 channels of decent mic. pre to learn on. WOO-HOO!

As for the Behringer... I'll see if I can trade ot sell it.
