really confused on how to get multitrack recording going. say i have 6 mics hooked in my mixer and my mixer outs into a card like the audiophile 2496 zzounds.com/item--MDOAP2496 will it record each mic on a different track so i can later balance the tracks better? or do i need a card like the delta 1010 zzounds.com/item--MDOD1010LT with ungodly amounts of ins and outs to achieve multitrackdom. im sure its a simple answer but im just new at this stuff. thanks in advance for the help! :)

(sorry i cant directly link the sites, noob rules)

If your mixers outputs are just the stereo outs, then no. If you have direct outs from your mixer, as in each track has a 1/4" jack specifically call "direct out" then you could do this with the delta 1010. The audiphile only does 2 tracks.

If you want to make it easy on yourself, look at the firewire interfaces. I have the presonus firepod, which I think its called the FP10 now. You can find them on ebay for a good price.

I'll write more . . .

With the firepod, and any firewire interface, you can send as many tracks as the interface handles directy to your computer through one firewire cord, they will be all individual tracks so you can mix (balance) them as you like.

There are lots of ways to get audio to your computer, you just need to get your head around all the connections. Its important to know this because when you start purchasing equipment, you don't want to head down a road that will leave you unsatisfied.

the more i look at it, the more i think no... can anyone point me in the direction of an affordable line of mixers with direct outs for each channel? that would be swell!
