OK so here's how it went:
My buddy (Skip) has penned & copywrited many a song lyric. He asked me to help out getting one "on tape".
I went out and bought an MR8, downloaded a free copy of pro-tools and started playing around. He supplied the basic acoustic rhythm and voice, I threw in bass, lead, a couple of solos, drum machine, and whatever else you hear.
Anyway, this is the first mix-down of our first attempt. We will surely be doing more songs in the near future (just because it's so damn fun!). I'll post more of 'em if you think they're worth listening to.
Please, Lend this an ear, and tell me where I screwed up.

Nice job Orbitaljoe. The recording has a lot of energy and the song is nice. keep up the good work.

Pretty good for a first timer! Sounds like you could stand to boost the lower end a bit. Bring the vocals up a tad.... I'm not sure how much I like the echo.... I dunno... It's a decent concept. It just seems like you got a lot of stuff goin on there and the echo doesn't help to clarify the mix. Hope you don't feel like I'm slammin ya, I'm not an expert, but you did ask for suggestions. I hope this helps some.

Ahhh, that open throated V8:)

Very nicely performed, recorded and mixed - you surely have done this before? I agree with bd that the echo felt a little overdone, but that's just taste. THe only other comment, which is also taste, is that there was perhaps a little too much musical cleverness going on - all those lovely riffs and licks sometimes led to the track feeling as if it had lost its way a little. But as I say, that has to be a matter of taste.

Excellent job.

morindae.
Thanks for the kudos

BD,
No I don't think you're slammin me at all, that's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I agree the bottom and VOX should come up a bit (consider it done) I also tend to agree with you on the echo being a bit much...but my buddy just loves it (oh well it is his song) Thanks for your honesty

Garry,
Yeah, this really was my first attempt at this sort of thing. I guess I've been doing it in my head for quite some time though ;-)
Maybe I can talk Skip into toning down the echo a bit. As far as the over abundance of "musical cleverness", I have to take the blame for that...I was just having so much fun, I guess I got carried away. I can (hopefully) calm down a bit on the next tune he sends me.

Thanks Guys...I'll post a new mix soon,
Joe

Hey Joe,
the tune sounds groovy, good job. How do you get it on the site I might have a song to post
thanks Danny

Nice tune

Nice tune. Has some great potential.
One of the rhythm guitars sounds a little out of tune however.

Nohelani,
You can post your MP3's on nowhereradio.

I think you get 15 megs of free space, and more if you pay a nominal fee. Pretty much everyone here posts their tunes there.

What is that at 1:15? Was that intentional?

It sounds like someone's saying "aw shit" at that spot.

Carl

Carl,
He He never looked at it that way.
The line is "thinkin' and wishin' inside my head"

Anyway...there's yet another mix of this up now...
Maybe this is really the final mix this time...

What do you all think?
Joe

Good Perfrmances, Good Tracking, Good Mix. Excellent first recording project!

Take a little of that echo off, add some low end, and if you are mixing on a pc download endorphin (www.digitalfishphones.com) which is a compressor and add a little to it. I think if you do this you will have a great recording.
