I am a total neophyte when it comes to recording and the limit of my experience is having other people operate equipment while I blast away on the guitar. I've decided I want to get started doing things myself and it looks like (after reading the forums), that the MR-8 is good for a simpleton like me. However, I've come up with a few questions that I was hoping I could get input on:
1) My computer is a Pentium 600 dinosaur with a 20gig hardrive 128 mb RAM running Windows 98 second edition. When I checked the Fostex Website it looks like it won't work. But I saw a post froma guy who had Windows 98 and I'm assuming he got it to work. By work I mean he had the ability to import/export files to the PC for mastering et al. So I guess I would like to know if it will work with my version of Windows. Which leads me to question #2
2) Assuming it will work can I get drumming software and use it instead of a drum machine? If so does anyone have recommendations? Or should I use a standalone drum machine like a Boss DR?
3) I'll probably only have a budget for one mic to start which will probably be a SM-57. Any recommendations for a good preamp (which appears phenomonally , beneficial from what I've read. I'ls like to get one for @ $100, if possible.
Thanks for the help I really appreciate any input available. I trust the people here much more than any salesman.
