Sandisk 512 Cf

Just Bought A Sandisk 512 , Wish I Wouldn't Have !!! Will Not Bounce Correctly ,sounds Like It Skips. Has Anyone Ever Found A 512 Cf That Works Allright Yet? Might Have To Order From Fostex. Memory Suppliers Sent Me A E-mail Saying That Sandisk Will Work And Are 100% Compatable, good Thing I Didnt Get It From Them So I Can Get My Money Back In A Timely Manner.

512mb card - SimpleTech

I've had my MR-8 for about 6 months and realized very quickly that the 128 mb card was not going to suit my needs.
I trolled ebay and found a SimpleTech 512 mb (Black and Gold label, no other markings, doesn't list as being an 'STI Flash)
If I remrember correctly, there was a misspelling or the card was listed in an unusual category or something, so I ended up winning the bid on it for under $100 due to low exposure on the auction.
Anyway, this card has been as good as gold... absolutely ZERO problems with it and I've been putting the MR-8 through some rigid paces lately.

Numbers on the back of the card are:
90000-4074-101
031017-FL2-002

Hope this helps!

To bad!! :( Any markings on the car so we don't make the same mistake? What does the MR-8 says when you plug it in? We need to crosscheck with "Junplugged" to see if is the same card.

Damn, is so hard to find a "full" working 512MB CF card!

I wonder if it is the Sandisk "Type II" referred to in the "confirmed CF cards" at the fostex site...?

*edit*
referred to in the "confirmed CF cards" as not functional

You know, lately I've noticed that I don't see any specs anymore or even part numbers for the CF cards on web sites. So it's getting harder to figure it out, on the other hand, the cards are getting better and there is probably fewer that are not compatlible based on the specs.

About 6 months ago, I also checked the fostex list for a compatible card, got one, and it wasn't compatible. a 256 I now use in my dig. cam....

the way I went last, was a page or 2 back in this thread. A couple of people said they got good cards from memorysuppliers and I just trusted their remarks and said what the heck.

That co. also said that they have a guarantee on compatibility so I just went for it. Well, next, I received a differnt card than the 2 brands that the guys here said that they got, (the website said Toshiba/Samsung 512 cf - but the co. sent out one of 3 cf's with different labels, claiming it was the same internally, but a different supplier) it didn't bounce right - clicks and skips - so I returned it and they sent me the SanDisk 512. (i requested either the Sandisk or Kingston on my rma sheet in the box when I returned it) I think that there WAS an incompatible Sandisk card on the fostex list at one time, I havn't looked in a long time.

So anyway, I asked them for one of the other 2, Kingston or Sandisk and the SanDisk works fine for me.

so forget the list, just make sure you get a card from a co. that will definitely take it back and replace it with another, or credit you for another, or refund your money. Local place would be good, but I did it online and the turnaround for me was 3 weeks of recving one, testing, emailing, getting return email for the RMA, shiping back, they process it, recvg email about it, then getting the replacement. I was wondering how long it would be if the second one didn't work and I was acually anticipating that it wouldn't. Good luck.

Pretty sure you can only use Type I.

BTW, If the second card didn't work I was going to ask for a refund and get the one from the Fostex site. I didn't know about it until I ordered from memorysuppliers already. Hopfully getting one from Fostex ends all this discussion anyway! :)

there is no unusual markings on the card. card says SDCFB at startup.takin it back to STAPLES to get money back then ordering from Fostex, they got us by the !@#$. notice on the Fostex cf card order site there is conviently no picture available of the cf card

By the *%$# indeed.

Convenient lack of: pictures, information, and standardized CF specifications in the market.

What IS the difference which causes this incompatibility?

Just a thought, the consequences of having a 512mb CF card, is that I fill it up. I used to have 3 or 4 or more song files backed up to cdr and make 2 copies. Now I can have only 1 or 2! I'm transferring a lot of data, and it takes a while. Of course, I'm a lot more productive and can add drums, bass, alternate vox tracks, so it's worth it, but man, I'm burning cdrs now like 2 a day, just to make room on the pc hdd.

Recordig Time

Can someone tell me how not to lose recording time on the cf card if you erase a track or undo a part ?Say you record the drum track for a song and you have 18 minutes of recording time left on the card, then you record a guitar track and have 12 minutes left but you want to erase the track ,so you do ,then you still have 12 minutes left ,why would it not go back to 18 minutes ?I must be doin something wrong, right?

menu/song/delete unused

junplugged- Have you read about the latest upgrade from fostex, v1.11?

It sounded like there was an option you could turn on where you would no longer have to go through the "delete unused" ritual, but would only have to confirm the absolute deletion whenever you deleted a track...

No, actually, I didn't even get around to v1.10. I hardly even delete unused anymore w/ my 512 mb cf, until I usb to pc for archive/bkup. I'll have to go check it out.

Ritek Ridata CArd

Has anyone tried this card: Ritek Ridata™ Super Fast 512MB 52X Read 40X Write Compact Flash Memory Card (CF 512 MB Card)

If it's good, we should all get one.

I've found it for $67 plus shipping!

Download to Computer

Has anyone tried downloading to windows 98?What is the reason for having to download to 2000?Other than newer and faster processing is all I can figure.
Also thanx for info on menu/song/delete unused, helps alot when using 128 :)

I don't think the MR8 is compatible with win98. You would have to get an additional CF reader I think...

(readers run about $20 or so)

I've got card readers which work just fine with 98SE or 2000, so I'd bet the OS isn't the problem.

Hmmm.

The MR8 has the driver in the firmware. It's compatible only with the new protocol of USB driver that doesn't need a disk. But unfortunately, that also makes it backwards incompatible with anything older than win2000, ME might work w/ it I don't know. So you would need a card reader to d/l data off the CF.

I have to ditto the SimpleTech 512Mb card. I bought mine through Ebay also (I wish I'd paid "under a hundred" but then., I've had mine a while).

I have had ZERO problems with it but my needs are fairly modest and I do my bouncing and editing in Cakewalk 2004 on the computer.
