I only joined homerecording today. It's an awesome awesome site, and the mp3 clinic section is such a great idea! I've been looking for something like that for quite a while now! ..

Heres a suggestion though -
Can't there be different sections? Like electro/blues/rock/metal/alternative etc. ? .. It would be in the interest of everyone, because sometimes you can't really judge what genre a song is judging by the title, and it will make it much easier for everyone. eg. Most people listening metal, wouldn't really be interested in the trance recordings =)

And then also, maybe the people could also post what setup they used on that recording? That would be useful :)

Just ideas? =)

I don't think the traffic in the clinic is heavy enough to warrant segregating the genres. I'm afraid if you create a bunch of sub-clinics, many will have no chance of being seen/heard.

Besides--I want all kinds of ears on my mixes. I think we all learn more that way.

I think WhiteStrat summed it up pretty good. Too add a little more, a lot of songs posted here just can't be classed into one genre.

Welcome to the site.

I also don't think "listeners" are classifiable, either. I don't, and nobody I know, only likes one kind of music. If a song is done well, I'll be just as happy to listen to and comment on a hip-hop tune as I would on a hard rock tune. The Clinic's fine just the way it is.

Yep. Same here.

That's a pretty broad assumption.

I'd go nuts if I only listened to the exact type of music I actually make

lol yeah i get what you guys are saying, just a suggestion.

Also, the best ears here are often people who record and/or mix music commercially or semi-comercially. I can't afford the luxury of only recording neopsychedelic folk-classical fusion. I have to record choirs, early music, reggae, R&B, bluegrass, and string quartets. When I listen, I listen for the problems with the recording. I don't really care if you are recording traffic noise (which I've had to do for a radio play). I'm not able to just record the things I like. I learn every day by listening to things I wouldn't pay a dollar to see.-Richie
