I've been trying to find a decent free or not free converter that will allow me to convert mov files to wmv or any other file than doesn't require quick time for post processing and editing.

Can anyone recommend a software download that doesn't attempt to hijack my PC?

SUPER from erightsoft.com

converts anything to anything, no hijacks, free.

I've used it for years with no problems.

Super is super but not entirely problem free. ALWAYS update to the latest version (2 in July 2012) to keep ahead of issues.
You also need some nouse when converting for various screen sizes etc but it'll come to you.
Oh, the download page is a nightmare - read carefully before clicking anything.

I bought Roxio last year and happily found last week that it has a converter. :-) I use it for burning CD's mostly.

The downloads on that site are blocked on our network...."high risk content"

I didn't bother trying on any other network.

And I agree...their pages are a nightmare. Very hard to figure out where the actual SUPER download is.
Most of the links are for garbage.

I finally managed to download SUPER because I've been looking for a good converter.

Ignore all the big "DOWNLOAD" buttons which are rubbish and look for a small hotlink actually in the text. The file you want is called "SUPERsetup.exe". I finally found it by clicking a link (small, in the body of text) saying "Download and Use" which takes me to another list of features, then right at the bottom on the link labelled "Download SUPER © setup file from our 5th dedicated server ". I just tried to link to the proper page with the download and it sent me back to one of the junk pages.

The actual programme seems pretty good (but you need to know what you're doing) despite the hellish nature of their web page. It better be VERY good considering the spamish shit they put on their site.

Another thumbs up for Super. It seems to have the best performance and produces reliable, error free files.

Here is a shortcut to the download... http://www.erightsoft.org/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe

They apparently get financial support by including AOL browser toolbar as a secondary install. Make sure you uncheck the AOL items during the install if you don't want them.

It is good software and worth the hike through the mud to get it. Watch a few youtube tutorials if you want to get to know it quickly.
