In the midst of switching over to LogicPro from protools and recently got the MOTU 896 (w/o manual). And I'm confused by the fact that there is no mute for monitors, as the headphones and main share the same knob. And I'm going straight into my mac without a console. How do I listen in phones without feeding out to my powered monitors at the same time?

Excellent question...and dammit I don't know the answer. I'll check my manual as this concerns me as well...but I won't be home until tomorrow night to check on that. I'll get back atcha unless someone beats me to it. Much love,

The older 828 has a single knob controlling the volume. There are a couple of solutions. One is to turn your active monitors off while recording through an open mic. Some say that this is not a good solution because it means that you are constantly switching your speakers on and off. Who knows. another solution would be some king of simple mute or switch unit between your monitors and the motu. The other alternative might be something like the Presonus Central Station.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like something like that could do the job. Funny how a little thing like a mute button is so overlooked. Just figured things like thaqt were standard these days after using the 002 for the past year or so.

This is the method I used at my last session. Pain in the butt!
