Most enviable/sought after guitar tone

David Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi all have great guitar sounds.

Worst guitar sounds is more fun:

Eddie Van Halen
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai

I agree with you on most of those, but as far as shredding tones go Satriani's got the best of any that I've ever heard. Now Micheal Angelo has the most irritating sound in my opinion, so I wanted to add that to your list.

stephen carpenter has an awesome sound.

the guys from glassjaw have a great sound as well. they play like goddamn machines but their sound sounds fucking unwieldly

steve carpenter does have an amazing tone and he embodies the deftones sound.
