Hi guys - I'm looking for a pr of small (8"x8") passive 8 ohm reference monitors that I can power w my stereo amp. My stereo spkrs are 8 ohm so I assume the second pr of spkrs has to be 8 ohms as well. I've looked thru catalogs but they don't often list the impedence. I went to a couple of company websites & the monitors I was interested in ( Hafler, a
Alesis) weren't 8 ohms. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm just using an old Onkyo "Dual Super Servo Integrated Stereo Amp". It's OLD but works as well as anything else. I'd rather put my money into equipment that's more necessary.

Onkyo's usually have pretty big power supplies, so it should be able to handle 4 ohms, if it's pretty light weight and you can pick it up with one hand then probably not, best bet is to call onkyo and ask them that way you won't be limiting your self on your choice of monitors.

Your Monitoring chain is prolly the Most NECESSARY equipment to get a good sounding record....you can have all the million dollar gear in the world but if you can't hear what your doing properly chances are it will still sound like shit...
and i can have behringer gear with a super monitoring chain and I would almost guarantee a better sounding song...also one that translates on all systems better....

Using bi-amplified active monitors does not only give you an amp. It gives you TWO amps that is specially made for the speakers, and that each drives one element by itself.

Usually, it's worth the extra money.

I agree, but spend the money and get some good one, I see these people that buy the cheapest one's and claim there the best they've heard, but if there getting the cheapest just think about what they must be compairing it too.
