Please advise me as to which monitors are the best quality under $500. I'm looking at the Yamaha MSP3 and MSP5, but I really need some expert and experienced advice. Thanks!

P.S. These monitors will be running out of my computer's soundcard (Sound Blaster Audigy ZS 2)

Yo Tapping Music:

For the money, try the KRK ST8 passives. I replaced my great Yorkvilles with a set of these monitors.

Difference between them was: Yorks = 6.5 " woofer -- KRK's = 8" woofers -- significant difference.

For the bucks, the KRKs are pretty darned good.

Talk to Deepwater on this bbs about Wharfedale. Everybody seems to like these, and he cuts us all a good deal. (that being said, I haven't bought any yet, but I'm gettin' there...)

The MSP5 is good for it's size, but don't expect miracles...

Tannoy Reveals stays a good deal by me!

......oooooh he said soundblaster LOL try the samson 65as and pickup up an audiophile 24/96 sound card. samson 65as are $299.99 and the audiophile is $99.99 at www.americanmusical.com and you'll still have a hundred left over to get some other equipment.

Have you thought about a used set. I got a set of V8's for about $500. If you watch, I 've seen em go for less than $500 on eBay.

Need more knowledge

I bet the V8's are nice, but I'm leaning towards the RP5's to keep the cost down. Also, everything I've read speaks very highly of the quality of the RP5's for the size and cost. I have one more question:

Do 10W + 10W monitors put out more sound than what it seems to imply? I'm looking at a pair on Ebay (brand name unknown...that alone makes me hesitate) that are 10W+10W. The owner is closing down his studio and has several pairs still unopened and is liquifying his inventory. It sounds like a good opportunity to get some "beginner" monitors, but I'm just a little unsure because of the unknowns. I need some advice. Thanks to everyone helping out with this discussion!
