I'm going off to college soon and decided to do some dorm recording whenever i got the chance. I just need to know if there are some good monitoring circamaural headphones, that i can use in my dorm studio and i can wear around fashionably. Keep in mind my budget is $200.

I have been looking at the beats by Dre line but figured that they were not good for recording plus i don't like the battery part of them. I've also looked at the ATH-M50's. I've been getting positive reviews on these the only bad part is that their cord is 11-feet long or coiled. I dont want to look like a D-bag wearing the coiled ones around, but idk what to do with the extra long cordage with the 11 feet ones. If you have any other suggestions please be my guest to post in comments.

~Thank You

ATH-M50's are decent sounding. So are Sennheiser HD280 pro's. The ATH-M50's have, in my opinion, sound better. The HD280's however have better containment to help avoid headphone leakage or you from hearing outside noise. Both have coiled cords though...

You want decent isolation? Sony 7506's or Sennheiser 280's.

You want decent sound quality? Grado SR225's.

You want to make decent mixes? Don't use headphones.

i go the Sony 7506 and they have literally lasted so long , I recently changed out the ear pads (which they sell at many places for $14).....they're like brand new again! almost 15yrs later.

$85-$99 and well worth it.

If you want to get the beat with a mic and you only are in posession of good monitors and one room isn't smart to have headphones so the monitor wont feed the mic in fx the western guitar/mic?
To keep the beat i mean. I am dealing with that issue, sorry if it's too offtopic.
But I think with bass only use monitors-Like almost everyone would tell you? :D (unless acoustic bass)

does no one read anymore?
The guy wants something for his dorm room so he can't use moniotrs for all the obvious reasons.

Best bang for the buck .... Audio Technica ATH-AD700's. About 100 bucks ....... sound is comparable to my $400 Sennheiser HD-600's

ATH-M50, HD280, 7506, and others are common mentions.

I have 280's. To tight on my small head. Which is probably good for isolation. But not for critical listening if you're distracted by the comfort factor.

I used to have Sony MDR V-600's and they didn't age well, but a decade of use out of them. Even used them as a mic when I first got into recording. All of the vinyl stuff started peeling in the first two weeks, otherwise a nice set of cans. And very comfortable to wear.

Closed cans for isolation. Open if you want to hear what's going on around you while listening.

Grados and other options on the high end. I have some Magnepan magnaplanar speakers and if I put them to the left and right of a chair that I'm in, I can run those pretty quiet and still get a decent level at my vantage point. As in, get up and go a few feet away, and it's quiet. So I wouldn't just rule out monitors. Although most studio monitors can be a bit too active / flat out loud, even at their lowest setting(s).
