yeah, thats the thing about an at home testdrive, it helps reduce that aspect of the rooms.

Thanks for all the info CoolCat. I would not be comfortable doing a review for anyone since I am just now getting my first set of monitors and my ear is not exactly trained (in an amateur or professional manner!) :)

I have yet to receive my Yorkies. It has been greater than a month now. First off, I was told that Yorkville does not make the YSMP1s anymore, and that after I was charged for YSMP1s, they were going to send me the YSMP2s. I told them Yorkvilles website said the YSMP2s had a smaller bass speaker, less frequency response on the low-end, oh, and costed about 100 bucks cheaper or something like that.

I called Yorkville directly and spoke to Herb who was very helpful. He said there that the YSMP1s are not longer made, but they make the YSMP1-2s which are different than YSMP2s (YSMP2-1s I suppose?). Anyhow, the YSMP1-2s are the same as the YSMP1-1s only they are manufactured overseas (China Probably). I asked them if they used the same components as the YSMP1-1s and he said, yes they are just assembled overseas instead of Canada. Anyhow, now the distributor I purchased them through says they are not available until June! Time for a refund, I'm not waiting another 3 months!

Anyhow, thought it was interesting the move overseas model number confusion.
YSMP1-1 and YSMP1-2 and YSMP2s, the first two being the similar pair.

Also, why do you think sweetwater does chooses not to carry Yorkville?
musiciansfriend does not have the monitors
zzsounds does not have them
musiciansbuy is who I am currently having the 3 month delay with
A phone conversation with my local retailer (who is a distributor according to Yorkvilles website) says "Yorkville does not have a YSMP monitor"

Fun fun. Where do I get a pair?!

Regards,

- Mike

I got mine at GEAR 1 Music. $449 pair, minus 10% off or something.
About $400 pair.

I added this info., apparently they went up slightly.
GEAR1SALE is the code on the last "coupon page".
Most stores will match price.
Other than the shipping risk I had no problems, but I agree with the gang that the local brick and mortar stores allow you to take 'em back and no wasting the cash and time in shipping.

yeah the yorks man....great budget gear, like the RNC and the DMP3..and the yadayadayadaa..I like 'em even more after the side by side with the DYN's.

I've had my monitors in 3 different rooms, for an extended amount of time in each, and I can say that the room makes a huge difference in the stereo field and perceived frequency response.

Agreed. I have a 5" Edifier R1900TIII, and it sounds clean and accurate to mix on some (big) rooms and tottaly crap on this 10x10 type.
