Hey Guy's

I was just wondering if it really makes a big difference whether you use a home stereo amp or an amp specifically made for monitors on near field's ?

Thanks
Pier

A home stereo amp color your sound wich a true monitor amp doesn't.

In the end you still have to "learn" the sound of your monitors, so you, sort of, know how to mix on them for the best result.

Tone controls are the part of a home stereo that colors the sound most (for obvious reasons). If you can bypass them: great! If not, set them at 0 for minimum impact, and you'll probably do OK, assuming it's a good home stereo amplifier.

Thanks for the input

OK so what I am hearing is that I really need a monitor amp.

So what am I looking at as far as price and brands ?

Thanks Pier

Well, if your home stereo system is one of those compact thingies, then yes, you'll need something better.

Theres not much talk about amps here, probably because they have less impact on the sound that monitors, and I am partial to active monitors by principle, so I can't help you either...
However, do a search here, I know it has been disussed in conjunction with the Yorksville YSM-1 speakers.
